Our last cruise was October 2019 (Dream) and I admit I've been out of the loop since then. On that cruise, they were testing (from time to time) Wifi being available on board - I remember our At Sea Day we had it for 2-3 hours and then it was over. DH and I used our Verizon plan for 24 hours between Nassau and Castaway and otherwise just went off the grid so to speak.

Did that idea ever take off, or is it still the same as it was back then?

Do they offer Wifi as a perk now or is it still the small pay packages that don't last any time? We are sailing on the Wish at the end of July.

Still connect at Sea. 50 mb free if you sign up on the first day.
$.25 per mb, pay as you go.
$19.00 for 100 mb
$39.00 for 300 mb
$89.00 for 1,000 mb

We were on the Dream two weeks ago. The iMessage worked really well for us even without the Connect @ Sea logged in. I did use it for other stuff but it was hit or miss. It seemed like Instagram and Facebook worked well but for some reason I couldn't go onto my bank account app while connected. It wasn't until I was at Blue Lagoon Island on their free wifi that I was able to get through on that.

One strange thing I noticed was that even when I was disconnected from the Connect @ Sea I would get notifications from gmail, facebook, IG etc but then it wouldn't refresh my inbox for instance. It was as if they let just enough through to get a notification but nothing past that.

Would also recommend if you have an iPhone to set background app refresh to off so that if you are logged in to the paid wifi it isn't chewing through it in the background and then disconnecting completely when you are done. I somehow lost 30mb one evening even though I thought I had disconnected all the way.

Is the free 50mb is per stateroom, person, per phone, or per email account?
(can the whole family get 50mb each?)

As far as I could tell the 50mb free was by the stateroom. You may be able to have separate accounts for the paid internet but the charges all go back to your stateroom bill.
