Late resort arrival? (potentially after midnight)

I also have had it before I got there, but I also have put 11am a few times and not gotten a text until after 6......I chalk it up to varying times of busy-ness

How can they change my room if it's already assigned to me though? They won't know if I'm there or not if I check in online?

I mean, as long as we have a room, that's what is important an it sounds like arriving after midnight won't be an issue.
Unlocking your door sends an electronic signal that tells them you’ve arrived and that the room is occupied.

I’ve read here on DISboards that a guest isn’t marked as a “no show” until two nights have passed without their entering their room. But it’s best to notify them that you’re going to arrive late, especially if, like some guests, you reserve a room for the night before you arrive so that your room is ready and waiting when you get there the next morning (for example, at 9 AM after a very long flight).

My husband just said we can probably take the 2:20 flight which is scheduled to land at 6 and would probably get us there around 7 or so.

of course then I have to worry about landing in later afternoon thunderstorms. 😂

If you are not arriving in late May / early June then the afternoon thunderstorms should not have started.

Dave

October. :)

If we land 6 pm Orlando time, they may have moved through already. But I won't spend a lot of time worrying about that, people land around that time everyday!

A few trips ago we had a few delays in flights (thanks Newark) and got to our hotel at a little after 1AM. We never got a text that the room was ready so we had to go to the front desk (Poly) and their system updates overnight so they took a few minutes to get us situated and we were in our room by 1:35. We were not able to go direct to room, but was not a hard process. Either way, I recommend the online check-in because that should get you to your room no worries, but worst case scenario- the Front desk will make sure you were taken care of.

I'll never forget that the front desk staff got us a few waters and Lei's to make sure we felt welcome after the travels!!!

By October the daily afternoon thunderstorms are gone. October normally has about 5 days of rain. However October is still within Hurricane Season, some strong weather patterns may pass through.

Dave

Well if a hurricane is coming, I may move days around! 😁

I've arrived at the boardwalk late 2x. Once, I was supposed to arrive by like 2. I got to to the room around midnight. The other time we were supposed to arrive around 6 and checked in around 3am. No issues going straight to the room either time. I think I had my room number well before I got there.

Another time we arrived at the Poly around 11. Our room was ready but on the 1st floor, no balcony. We asked if it was possible to switch to a balcony room. They checked and switched us to a 3rd floor room that had been assigned to someone else. We know this because there were welcome chocolates and a little welcome note. They gave us the chocolates and took the note lol. This was club level and they gave us our note from our original room and those chocolates too. My kids were very happy to have their own chocolate lol. I actually felt bad we took someone's balcony. I hope they enjoyed their patio.

We arrive after midnight almost all the time and never worried and we have received our room text a lot of times before we even started our drive (7 hours from the Florida panhandle). When I do the online check-in I do not use the room request and I do not say when I plan to arrive. Arriving late does not mean you will get the worst room, we have received our room request or close to it, more often than not. Only on DIS does it seem like people change their rooms often. I was talking with a resort manager and she said that almost all room changes are because there was something wrong with the room or they decided to upgrade.
Also, I have NEVER had a room not ready when arriving real late, so do not even worry about that.

I would think checking in after midnight could possibly result in getting the least desirable room in your category as the front desk will make changes, if available, when earlier checkins in the same room category make room complaints during the day. This, of course, would depend on how crowded it is and how many vacant rooms there are. I haven’t had this happen at the Swan, but have had it happen at other Marriott properties.
We arrived at WL once at 3 am and ended up in an upgraded room (it took us a couple of days to even realize it) (February) and at CR at 2 am and got the room request we'd made (May). We often arrive around 11:30 pm to 1 am and have never had what I would consider a least desirable room. I can't say how busy it ever has been, and if we were just lucky, but we usually get something pretty close to what we've asked for or better. We never do online check-in; we always go to the front desk since it doesn't usually take much time, especially after midnight. The bonus at WL was that we got amazing pictures of the lobby with absolutely no one else around. But I don't recommend 3 am (the flight was 4 hours late, so it wasn't exactly planned).

Yes arriving real late lets you/us get some great night time photos of the resort with no one around and it is so peaceful. LOL I also noticed that the CM's seem more happy, probably because they are not inundated with guests at that time unlike during the day. Our trip In January at POR at 2AM

We arrived really late to CSR one trip. I made a request for Cabanas. When we landed I had a room ready text for Ranchos. I was initially upset and stopped at the front desk but they were full and couldn't move us. My daughter didn't even want to stop at the desk and said the room was fine.

Well it ended up being a perfect location. We were really close to the pool and bus stop.

Sometimes what you think is a "bad" room turns out to be the best room for you. Reading the boards can make you think you have to have a certain room to make your trip magical but that's not the case.
