Once upon a time, I think DL had a pass that was discounted for entry after something like 4pm. Does something like that still exist? If we were to arrive at the park about 6pm and DL was open until 8, is there a cheap way to get into the park? Or would it be a better deal to get two Deluxe APs since they're just $40 more than the current deal on 5 day hoppers?

What we're looking at (may not be able to do but I'm finding prices that indicate we could) is 6 days including travel. If we did that, we could get in for either the first or last day. The flight we're looking at would get us in to LAX at 4pm, which would get us to the parks around 5:30-6:30, still early enough for the fireworks or at least for a couple of in-park hours. But we don't want to pay for a full day's entrance for one/two hours in the park.

we are using the extra 2 days on our travel days....and using 3 for all day. I am with you, I wouldn't normally pay for less that 6 hrs in the park, especially since there is so much to do ( resorts & DD ) to still have magic !

I also assume that there is a "sweet spot" some where between the two parks to watch the fireworks ?

I suspect there is as well.

I'm thinking we may go with the DAPs instead. They're only about $45 more expensive than the 5-day hoppers, get us in even for just an hour if we want, and get us discounts on some food and souvineers. Plus being able to say we're AP holders at Disneyland ;) I'll have to look at the plan, though, and see what we actually end up scheduling if anything. I'd consider an hour or two of Disneyland worth $15-$20/person if it was a good hour. If we ended up just wandering and doing nothing, it'd be wasted, but I have in the past gotten what I consider to be $20 worth of entertainment out of one hour in Disneyland, so if our planning finds that we could save $25+ with APs between other options, that would be worth getting those instead of the hoppers.

We may end up just going over to the Disneyland Hotel and letting DH see that area since he's never seen it. I wonder if that fountain and light show still exists and if so what the show times are for it...

I'd go for the AP's. You never know you may be able to "squeeze" in another visit before they are up. :D
