Late Late arrival

If I were to book a DVC studio at OKW, and didn't show up for check in until the next morning, would that be ok? I'd just like to have the room when we arrive at say 9 am... and if I book the night prior, we'd have it. Is that OK? Seems simple enough, but I'm just not sure.

Should work fine. To be safe, you should do online checkin in advance, and let them know you'll be arriving late/the next morning.

We've done that a few times ... arriving on a red eye flight (5A) having booked our DVC stay starting the prior night. It was sooooo cool getting a Magical Express bus all to ourselves at that hour!

Most of the resorts handle this easily ... but Poly was a major pain. They didn't have the check-in desk staffed at such an early hour and it took several security and cleaning folks to find someone who process a pre-dawn check-in. It wasn't a pleasant experience (the grumpy staff grumbled at us!) ... but other than that one time ... our other arrivals have been excellent. Our favorite was arriving Jambo house in thick fog, pre-dawn, with those lovely lamps in the entry walls. Soooooo special!!

Just let the know you won’t be arriving to the next day. Send an email to Ms to add the note to the reservation.

If you do on-line check-in, they probably won't even know when you first enter (other than the fact that perhaps their computer system notes what times the room door is opened). As far as I know, the desks are staffed 24 hours a day, although once I stayed at Bay Lake Tower and they said that I'd need to visit the Contemporary lobby for check-in desk services prior to 6am. I'd let them know your plans via phone or email and then do online check-in.

They can tell if you have actually entered the room, even with online check in. It is that piece I have been told they use to determine a no show.

But, I was also told it isn’t until night 2 that could cause the room to be canceled if they had not gotten any notification of a late arrival.

On the online check in the last option for arrival time is "After Midnight" I assume that would cover until 11 am the next morning but my paranoia would have me calling MS before hand.

It should be fine, but the rules of DVC do ask that you let them know you are coming in late, and sending an email to have them note is pretty quick and easy...no need to sit on hold or even wait for Chat to show up.

Many people do this!!!

I can attest to this working...just two weeks ago I was due in on an 11:30 am flight, but mother nature had other plans. Lots of snow at home (DC area) and resulting flight cancellations...I called MS after the first two flight cancellations and told them I didn't know if I'd get there that night or the next day. They put me on hold, called the resort (SSR) and told me it was all fine. Lots of luck later (I wound up w/4 total canceled flights, but by pure blind luck stumbled upon a flight w/an available seat leaving at 8 p.m. (which actually left at 10 pm) on a different airline--finally arrived at SSR (via taking a surge-priced Uber that cost more than twice as much as "regular" fare) at 1 a.m. And I was second in line at check-in! (For some reason, I almost never get a room number, despite doing online check-in, before I arrive. It's pretty much always "check the front desk." No one has ever been able to tell me why.) Anyway, back to the point: there was only one check-in CM working; there was a line (I was #2 out of 3 people checking in at 1 a.m.) and it all went very smoothly (altho I was about as tired as I could be--but THRILLED to actually BE there after the misery of travel that day)...

The one time I did a late night flight I think I got to SSR somewhere around 2 or 3 AM. I hadn't been able to book the room for that night and hoped they might be able to get me into a room early that morning. They couldn't actually check me in until 6AM. I went & crashed on one of the couches in the small lounge area. The CM came & got me as soon as she was able to check me in & got me into a room right away. Of course this was pre-covid & I was gambling I'd be able to get an early check-in. Since you are planning to book the night you won't actually be using the room just be sure to let them know of your expected late arrival.
