Late June in a hybrid?

We have a 21' Hybrid with a 13,500 btu air conditioning unit. We are interested in the possibility of a camping trip to Disney in late June, but are concerned about whether or not the AC would be able to keep the camper comfortable. When we need to retreat from the heat in the middle of the day, the last thing we want to do is return to an 80+ degree camper.

Is the AC up to the job - or is a hybrid just a bad idea in FL in June?

We did this in June 2009. We have the popupgizmos solar covers for both bunks and that helped some. But we had returned to our camper on a hot day (approx 95 degrees full sun) one afternoon and I laid down in the bunk to relax and after a while, I became dehydrated. Our AC just could not keep up. We have a 13.5 BTU AC. Even if we left the AC on all day on full cold fan high, it still did not help. We learned to just find an air conditioned attraction during the mid part of the day for the rest of our stay. Our site was full sun however, if you could request a site that was full shade during mid day and they give it to you, I think you would be ok. You also might try turtling it if you can get by without the bulks. 90% of the heat came in via the bulk areas even with the solar covers on.

I think UP North put their finger on it.

Stay out of the direct sun! :scared1:

We have the same issue with our popup when we go to the beach on the Gulf coast. Not as far south as Orlando, but the state park has NO shade and the AC struggles to make it tolerable mid-day in the summer.

What type of site have you reserved (or plan to?). The Full sites 1600-1900 are pretty shady. I've been in a few of the Premium lots and I'd say 1000-1300 have enough shade. Others will chime in if they want about other loops. But if it's a concern then add a note to your ressie to request a shady site. Plenty of trees at the Fort so you should be able to get one.

Enjoy it. I'd love to move up to a hybrid! :rotfl:

We were there one year in late July in our pop up in the 1400 loop with shade late in the day. We had Gizmos and left the AC running all day and night. We got a lot of midday showers so the humidity was worse than the heat. The AC seemed to do fine but no matter what we did the sheets were always damp. I would do it again if meant not going at all but would choose another month if I could.
