Late January/Early February at BWV? UPDATE 3/20

Hi all,
As I get further and further from passing ROFR and yet to have closing docs in my hands, I'm figuring I won't be closed and in Disney's system at the 11-month mark of my first DVC member trip. I was hoping to snag 7 nights in a standard view studio at Boardwalk Villas (my home resort, obviously) starting on January 26, 2013.

How far into the booking cycle do those standard view studios usually last at that time of year? Thanks for any insight you can give.

Not a real popular time of year so you might have a chance. The weather is wet and cold.

Thanks to both of you, especially since you both are such experienced DVCers! I feel a bit better now. Now if I could just make my closing docs magically appear on my doorstep.

You should have a good shot at it. I got a standard room studio in March about 6 months from that date.

I got a standard view studio for two nights, followed by a standard view one bedroom for 4 nights during President's week at 9 1/2 months out. I think end of January, beginning of February you'll have a great shot.

Thanks! We went the first week in February a few years ago and I clearly didn't pay enough attention to the weather forecast, because the closest thing to "cold" weather clothes I had in my suitcase was capris instead of shorts. I definitely won't ever make that mistake again!

We had no problem getting a standard view studio for 7 nights at BWV for January 27th-Feb. 4 this year. This was at the 7 month out mark since we own at SSR. I don't see it being a problem for you at all! Good luck!

We went January 19th of this year for 3 nights and were able to get a BWV 1 bedroom at 3 months out. Also, the weather was around 80 degrees for our stay. You never know with January!

Wet AND Cold ??
How cold could it be? Being a Snowbird-in-training, we plan to be in WDW in January & February, to beat the snow in the Northeast. Cold is a relative term. Like the time I went swimming in the outdoor pool in Miami, in February, prior to our first cruise. The locals thought I was crazy - but it was 77Degrees. That's equivalent to summer in Baltimore!
& My DVC points are at their lowest in January, so I LOVE the fact that it is not the most popular time for others. It's a Win-Win for us

I'll be the oddball here. I'm a BWV owner but decided to use up my extra SSR points so waited to the 7 month window to book a standard studio Jan. 18-23, 2012. It was not available when I called as soon as the window openned, so I waitlisted. I stayed on the waitlist all the way to the 7 days prior and even called daily and never got my waitlist. So we stayed at OKW 5 nights and then moved to BWV for the last 5 days. While some love split stays, we do not. I've been lucky before getting into BWV in late January in a standard studio, but not this year. I avoid MLK weekend and the marathon, and I also avoid the Prez weekend, but it did not workout for me. So this week my 11 month window opens and I'll be booking my January 2013 trip to get a standard studio for next year. OP, good luck, I would like to think you'll be OK since you'll only be under 11 month window a little. I agree about the weather in January, it can be one or the other. This year marks the first time ever we got in the pool, and almost daily. Normally the only water we touch is the hot tub. I actually had to go to the store and buy sunscreen! We also had to do laundry because we brought such a wide range of things, but only a couple of each. We never used our fleece or sweatpants and shirts, nor did we use any thermals, gloves, hats, or scarfs. I kept thinking how much valuable luggage space they used, but we have been in January and were happy these things were packed.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I know availability can often times be a crapshoot, so I'm going to always keep my expectations low (I'd rather be happily surprised rather than disappointed).

The good news is, DBF and I were going over some of my planning notes for our first couple of trips and we decided we wanted to make our first trip "home" more special. So we're going to kick it up a notch and try for Boardwalk view. I know, I could have just as bad a chance getting Boardwalk view as Standard view. But we'll take pool view and waitlist for Boardwalk view if we have to.

I just wanted to come back and give everyone an update. I was finally entered into the Disney system, points and all and was able to bank my 2011 points and make my January reservation this afternoon. And guess what??!?!

We got Boardwalk view for all seven nights!!!!!

I'm just so excited, I had to share my excitement. And I wanted to thank all of you for sharing your BWV experiences with me, they really helped my get my expectations in check.

I can't wait! I've heard nothing but wonderful things about the boardwalk view. I have to credit DBF though, I was just going to go for a standard but he said we should splurge for our first trip "home."

Yes, I noticed that too! Hopefully we'll have the great weather we had the past January. Nearly 80s every day! The January trips are really nice because they help us get over the hectic holidays!
