finally able to get a reservation at Ohana but for a late dinner 9.40PM... do you think it is a good idea to go with this reservation... will the experience and food be sub-par compared to an early dinner?

DON'T DO IT!!!!

Especially if you will be out at a park all day and tired!

We have Christmas Eve dinner there in 2015 and had an ADR around that time. We waited to be seated for about an hour (which I hear is a norm) and during that time there was no where to sit because EVERYONE was waiting about an hour past the ADRs to be seated. The were out of the bread, the wait staff was busy and slow, we were only brought skewers once the whole long time we were seated...not worth a late ADR again!

We went the trip after that and had one of the first seating of the night and it was a completely different experience!

We ate at Ohana at around 9:30 PM; it was actually much more relaxed than usual, and they didn't run out of anything.

We always do a late dinner at 'Ohana on one of our MK days and we've never had any problems. Like jamesez mentioned, it's usually a bit quieter and more relaxed. We've never had the run out of anything and our servers are always so attentive because the place isn't as packed. I'll be booking us another late dinner soon for our Nov trip.

Two late dinners. Two very different experiences.
We went back thinking itd be like the first time.. good service, plenty of yummy food. Instead... it felt rushed and tepid and not repeatable for us. Plus... after a long day it made it that much worse.
Would not do late again.

I've done 2 late dinners (9:30 and 9:50). I've also done a 5:15 dinner. I much prefer the later times. The restaurant is way more relaxed as it starts to empty out and the food is the same. On both of the late occasions, Wishes was at 10 and we had a lovely view from our table. The 5:15 dinner just felt like a madhouse. We've been seated promptly all 3 times we've been there. I highly recommend a late seating.

We had a 9:40 ADR booked for our August 2016 trip. I checked several times a day for an earlier time and finally got a 8:30 about a week prior to our trip. People often book several ADRs for the same night and then cancel what they decide they don't want. Keep trying!

We've done Ohana a little after 8PM on 3 trips and we still had to wait to be seated every time, but all the food was still delicious. No change in service either. If you are night owls it should be fine. After a long day in the park my younger one (4) fell asleep in his chair.
Our most recent trip I have to say the food was too spicy for the kids though (and they are adventurous eaters) which was a change from our previous visits.

That may have had something to do with the fact that it was Christmas Eve, which tends to bring in a lot more large families who sit and chat for longer than a typical family who is there just for a meal. Ive stayed at the Poly plenty and avoid the lobby area/shops until around 8pm just for the reason you stated. Mornings and evenings the place is PACKED with people waiting for their meals, but the late night folks get a quieter more relaxed dinner. Not sure what the bread issue was, but normally a later meal, you get a little more attention.

On the other hand, by 9:40, Im ready for bed! This meal is large, and yes you do have to wait for a server to get back to your table to offer you more/different meat option. I would expect best case scenario, it will be an hour for your dinner. At 10:40, stuffed and exhausted is not how I would like to go to sleep...especially if I had an early ADR for breakfast the next day.

IMO, Ohana is way overrated, unless your goal is to eat 2 lbs of meat. Its nothing special, but it is a lot of food, which appeals to some.

We agree on the nothing special. If you're staying at the Poly you can get a for-two sized version sent over from Room Service.

We love 'Ohana and eat there every trip. That being said, we try to get the earlier times (like when they first open). We do not feel rushed and honestly it is so much food - I hate eating that much very late and then heading to bed. We would rather eat early and then still have a few hours to walk our food off while walking around the park.
