Late Check Out

Quick question about our upcoming trip in June at Kidani (finally!). Our flight doesn't leave until 8:00pm and with two young kids (3 and 5), I'd love to keep our hotel room a little later. I was at SSR a couple of weeks ago and they let us stay until noon; not much of a difference really. Has anybody ever requested and gotten a late checkout? Was there a fee? Thanks!

It is unusual that they let you stay even that little bit longer. DVC properties do not allow late check outs.

You can use that facilities for the day. Depending on the resort there are usually decent changeroom facilities to clean up in if you decide to spend the day at the pool.

I would not want to be getting a late room because someone was allowed to stay late

Bell services will hold your luggage for you, and you can use any of the resort amenities. With little ones, it might be tougher to get them to nap (if that's what you want) without a room, but typically they don't extend the checkout time. As for cost, you can use an extra day's points and then leave whenever you like. Most likely, that's not worth it.

They must not have needed the room....although that is unusual. I wouldn't count on receiving that again.

I think you will find that late checkouts are not available as a matter of policy. In fact, I think there is some sort of penalty if you stay over a certain amount of time.

DVC check in is AFTER 4PM. Anytime our room was ready early I considered it a bonus. Given your situation with 2 young children and a late flight I would think it would be worth the extra points to have the room for the day.

You would be able to stay in the villa until the next morning if you booked an additional night in the villa. It might be worth it for you.

Just an FYI for anyone interested, 11 am checkout is unusual in the timeshare industry. The industry standard is 10am checkout, and has been for every non-DVC timeshare I've ever stayed in, including Marriotts, Hiltons, Starwoods, Hyatts, etc.

If you think you'll still need the room then reserve it for that night as well. They can charge an extra night's points for rooms that aren't vacated by 11 am check-out time. What other posters have said often works for most families - leave luggage with bell services, use pool changing facilities.

I have paid the extra night in points - worth it to enjoy the room.....


or also have made a day reservation at the Hyatt at the Orlando (MCO) airport. I think fee was like $60, and it's onsight.

I used the roof top pool, slept, and made for a stress free place to wait for our flight.

My experience has been that most are 10 am but I have seen 11 in a few non DVC resorts and 12 once. MOST will allow limited late checkout depending on situation.

DVC's policy is NO late checkouts. They would allow it in past years but changed the policy a few years ago.

I think that we have an obligation to check out on time and not hold up mousekeeping. Imagine what would happen if many checked out late. The room turnover would be delayed and we'd get our rooms even later.

Exactly, and that is also why DVC has had to take a tough stance on the checkout time. Too many were checking out late, and it was making check in times later too. I think if it's important for you to stay past 11, you should be paying the points for an extra night (day).

We once asked for a later checkout - for medical reasons - and were given an immediate No Late Checkouts Allowed. To be honest, I don't believe Disney truly realized the severity or magnitude of our situation. Our daughter was immediately hospitalized upon our return home where she stayed for the next 2 weeks.

I, too am surprised that you have been allowed to stay past the 11 AM time. With 2 little ones, I'd use the points to keep the room. You can pack while they nap and have a nice, easy leisurely day rather than being homeless. Although both DH and myself have found the sofas in the lobby to be rather comfortable while awaiting our departing flight.

With a late departure like that, we usually check out early in the morning (before 9) and head for a full day of park hopping. It's kind of our tradition to do a bit of commando park hopping the last day. Then we head back to OKW to take the rental car to the airport.

and enjoy that last day at the park(s). Gets our 3yo tired out so that he sleeps on the plane.

I like the no late check out policy. Everyone knows when the check out time is and that's that.

Like everyone has said, DVC is not just a hotel, so the rules are different.
