What exactly happened to get this infection? And it does seem a little odd they are going to wait a week. It seems like it the infection is spreading they would want to catch it as fast as they could and stop it. :confused3

...you'd THINK so, wouldn't you......this has been going on since LAST JULY; personally, I would get myself to ANOTHER DOCTOR, and pronto, but there's no talking to my brother....:sad2:

...it started out with a cut under his big toe and it got infected - my brother is a diabetic. After a week his whole foot had gotten swollen, so he wound up in the hospital. The infection seemingly went away, but he is always running around, and working, and doing all kinds of errands, etc. so he hadn't really been off his foot. After another month or so, the infection was still there, so they put him on intravenous meds to stop it. Diabetes makes the healing process that much longer, but the meds were taking too long, so, after ANOTHER month, he had to go to the hospital every day and go inside a hyperbaric chamber for about an hour.....it seems like one thing after another....

I agree, maybe another opinion is needed in this case. Hope all goes well! :goodvibes

...just heard from my sister....they didn't amputate anything [yet] since the infection is [so far] incurable....the Drs. have given him an extra few weeks to decide what they are going to do - in the meantime, they are measuring how far along the infaction is in his leg.....sure doesn't make any sense to me...:confused3 However, they DID remove his big toe, and, from what I understand from my mom, it was a nasty sort of removal....:scared:

Kim - I will continue to keep him in my prayers.

I can't understand them waiting! Wonder why!

...well, no more news about my brother's leg, but, at least he IS talking to us....my sister is driving my mom halfway down the shore, where they will meet her and pick up my mom - she'll stay with them till the 23rd when they come back up to No. New Jersey to spend that day the my other brother's house for our family's XMas party....WE won't be there, though, because we have a 2-hr drive to Atlantic City to go to the airport to leave for WDW for Christmas....

My Father was diabetic also. He got a cut on his knee one time and when he finally went to the hospital because at the time he didn't know he was diabetic and it knee was so swollen he thought he could treat it himself.

Well the Dr. looked at his leg and said okay we are just going to take it off at the knee. The look on my Father's face. Well they didn't end up taking his leg. The cut the infection part out and than shimed his knee open so it could heal from he inside out.

We were alway in the hospital with my Dad with sores on his feet that would not heal right and end up a mess.

So that part I am familiar with.

Try and have a good Christmas.

Yesterday was A.J.'s birthday! I can't believe he turned 19!

I got an email last night from a friend in FL telling me to wish him a happy birthday. She was my boss, and a good friend, when A.J. was born and she was the first person, outside of the family, that I talked to about A.J. having Down Syndrome. I have not seen her for 17 years and we only exchange Christmas cards and an occassional email to keep up with each other! But she remembered his birthday!

It does seem that it would have been better to do that initially, instead of waiting for it to spread.

:confused3 I wish I had an answer for you. My Dad's knee was very bad. It got to the point where it was nasty looking and he could even walk anymore. Than he went to Dr. who sent him straight to the E/R.
