Was a really good episode. I hope it, along with part one gets Omar Epps nominated for an Emmy.
House wanted Foreman to do an old fashioned labotomy procedure on Joe the now dead cop, to get a small piece of his brain. Foreman did it after an arguement between Cuddy and House. Or, Foreman thought he did. He had gone blind and punctured the bed and removed some stuffing.
Cuddy was ADAMANT about CDC doing the autopsy to contain the spread of this unknown infection. House was convinced Foreman didn't have that much time.
House took Steve McQueen, his pet rat he saved a couple months ago, to Joe the cop's apartment and put Steve everywhere Foreman went. He even called Foreman on the phone to be sure he didn't miss anything. After that call, Foreman called his father.
House set up a webcam at his home, on his rat to keep track of his progress. He also spent some time lurking outside the morgue, staring at the security guard outside the room containing Joe the cop's body. Then he did some clinic work, most notably seeing a little girl. The girl's mother had researched symptoms on the internet and had diagnosed her daughter. Incorrectly, thank goodness. House discovered that instead of epilepsy, the girl just had a need for a "private things in private places" talk as the vibrations in her car seat were apparently fun.
House realized Foreman's case was progressing faster than Joe the cop had. They tried to figure out what affects African Americans differently than caucasians. They started Foreman on a course of everything. About 8 pills, anti-biotics, everything they could to try and slow it down, as Foreman's pain was an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10.
Foreman's pancreas was starting to act up. He couldn't stand upright and it was affecting I think his kidneys. They had to take him off the drugs. His father went to pray for him after telling Eric his mother has progressed too far to make the trip. And, likely wouldn't remember. Sounded like Alzheimer's.
House watched Steve the rat some more, and couldn't figure out why he was still so healthy. It suddenly clicked that Joe the cop had Legionaire's disease, and that had likely slowed the progression in him. So, he (House) tossed a vial of fluid containing that into Foreman's clean room.
Foreman asked Cameron to be his medical proxy. He apologized and told her all the things he saw as weakness before, well now they were a definite strength. He asked that after he was put into an induced coma, she do another, more invasive biopsy of his brain. She wouldn't accept his apology under the circumstances, but got a lawyer to set up the proxy.
Just as Foreman went into his coma, Cameron did accept the apology. House was convinced he could find whatever it was at Joe's filthy apartment. Cameron agrred to wait, but only until Foremans oxygen level stayed over 90. House was looking for a dead rodent or anything there. He saw a blind pigeon and got ready to use his cane as a club...
But, the bird flew away. As House looked up, he saw water leaking from above the "greenhouse" for Joe's pot. He called Cameron, who insisted she had tested the water there. House went into the green house and saw the sprinklers on for the plants. He then crawled up a aldder and found an open hole of water, water he had been stealing form another source and the pigeons had been drinking from.
There were parasites in the water. House called Cameron to let her know. She already did know. She had done the biopsy.
Foreman was okay. They woke him from his coma, and he seemed a little sluggish, and the "wiggle your left toes", "I just did"- looks exchanged by Cameron and House- then lifting the wrong arm.... but basically fine.
Really really good episode.
