I will be visiting my family in Tampa and thought it would be fun to spend a night or two at WDW. I don't want to reserve anything ahead of time in case folks flake out on me.

Does anyone know how a last minute reservation or walk up works (if it does)?

Some of the resorts show full for the room type but I can see availability for cash on their website. Will they open these to DVC Members last minute if they don't sell them?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Depends on why it's available for cash. If it's because a member is using their points outside of the DVC or RCI system, that room can't be pulled back for a point stay.

Once inside 60 days, always call to try to reserve, as anything that had been available for points may be released to CRO, but can be brought back. If it was released earlier than breakage, it can't be pulled back. RAT is not totally accurate once within breakage.

My two stories concerning last minute:
DW and I several times have been at DTD for the day and decided we wanted to stay the night. Called the resorts directly (back before MS was open on Sundays) or MS and checked in within 15 minutes.
At MK for the day in Feb ’14 for our anniversary, called MS @09:00, and booked a room at BLT for that night. Checked-in @11:00 and the room was ready. We did not plan on this day going like this until @05:00 while still in bed.
