Last minute trip worth it?

So we are thinking of possibly taking a last minute trip at the beginning of August instead of January. I was told that it might not be worth it since everyone is on the dining plan right now and I wouldn't be able to secure reservations hardly anywhere. Any opinions? We would really love to be able to take advantage of the free dining while we can, but want it to be worth it!

Thanks!

I'm a believer that any Disneytrip is worth it. Make the best of the hotel restaurants, as well as ones that you wouldn't normally go to: Biergarten, Nine Dragons, etc. There will always be ADRs available. Just don't go hoping you'll eat at Le Cellier.

I would think any trip to WDW is worth it! :rotfl:

As long as you are not trying for Le Cellier for dinner or Chef Mickey for breakfast I think you may be fine.

Why not treat this trip to try the places you may never have tried otherwise? Maybe DTD or Teppan Edo? Places that usually don't book up to quickly. Try lunches instead of dinners for TS and use CS for dinners. Sometimes lunches are easier to get. Or in DHS during Fantasmic sometimes those restaurants (especially the ones with Fantasmic packages) are open.

Then just keep trying to get the ADR's you really want. Maybe something will open up at the last minute.

Hope this helps some. :)

They now have the online dining ressie system running. Punch in your date and the restaurant you are interested in and time, and they will let you know if you can reserve it, or give you other options to choose from. You will be able to get an idea if the restaurant choices you want are available and make your plans to book a trip.

Last year, due to my husband's work schedule changing, 4 weeks before our September trip, we had to move the whole vacation up a week. We needed to reschedule 8 days of dining during free dining. Did we get everything that we wanted, no, but we were able to get most of it (though we settled for a few lunches at the hot spots). It's worth a shot...and it's WDW, you're gonna have a great time!

Thank you all for the tips! I guess you are right, any Disney trip is worth it. I think we'll look in to trying new places instead of going to the same ones we always do. I just hope we can at least get into Ohana!!!

Hi....

Keep trying the online adr system. I went on last night on a whim to see if I could make a change for our trip at the end of August. I was amazed at how many late lunches were available at Teppan Edo, Tutto, even a Chef's De France. I managed to book a Tusker House Breakfast for 4 (before AK opens for the day) as well as a dinner at the Wave. You never know :)
