We have been to DW for the past 3 summers, I lost a major bonus to buget cuts so we were skipping this summer- planned a driving trip to visit friends and family, which was going to cost more than I realized. Then last week DH said with the money we are saving on our refi we could swing a trip if we drove. For the second week in July the only dvc resort is SSR which seems a bit removed from the parks. Should we do 8 days there or take the 1 nights at BC and BW that are available- we have done lots of splits but usually not for 1 night.

Do waitlists tend to fill at the 30 day mark once points will go into holding.

Tell me will love ssr-ironically we own there but after staying at BLT and BC we are taken with location. I am really excited and have never had a trip planned for less than 6 months.

We own at BLT but before we owed we stayed at BLT and SSR. I really liked SSR. If you see my profile pic, we were there for the reopening of the paddock pool and Mickey and goofy were there in their swim attire. Very large resort with lots of fun pool options. We stayed in the grandstand section.....first stop for the busses, quite pool with some horse themed sprayers, not a far walk to the main pool. And quick boat ride to DTD. Busses to the parks weren't bad. As a BLT owner we wouldn't stay there for a short trip (3-5 days but a 6 day or more in the summer....it's one of our top choices because we know there will be availability and points usage is on the lower side. You won't hate it.

Let me rephrase the PP's comment - you'll love SSR if you want a haven after the go- go-go of the Parks. Getting to the Parks via the bus is no big deal. If you commute to work, 15 minutes to the Parks is nothing.

You got a gift of money and capability for a lovely vacation. Take the advantage of setting up in SSR for the duration and enjoying a restful, peaceful vacation and make your choice SSR.

I would book the 8 days at SSR and WL 2 other options and see what happens. You are driving and will have a car so you will not have to rely on the buses going to the parks! I love SSR and taking the boat to DTD is great. The resort is beautiful to walk around. I plan on visiting all resorts so for me not having to move after 1 night would be the plus to try SSR.

We love SSR. Give it a try. Very quiet and low key. Kids love the pools, and we like all the dining options a short walk away at both DTD and even a nice walk over to OKW to eat at Olivias.

Thanks,

Makes sense. I did not think about the fact this will be our first qsdp trip so the restaurants and monorail will not matter, we usually do dxdp so I am used to juggling emh and 15-20 adrs per week.

I am really excited but BLT/BC spoil you with walking to the parks. Yes we have a car so buses are not really an issue.

We own at BLT and BCV and always drive. We also find that we want to go more often, 3 to 5 times a year and just simply cannot plan 11 months out for all the trips. So..... we have learned to love SSR and OKW.

Bus service at both are light years better than the bus service at both BLT and BCV since they don't share with any other resorts. Yeah, you can walk to parks from them but I want to go other places too. Since staying at SSR and OKW we have a renewed love of DTD. A short walk or a nice boat ride trumps the parking and bus nightmare associated with DTD.

Waitlist, never hurt and you never know!

As far as SSR, I think it gets a bum wrap! If it's all I can get, I take it, it's a lovely resort, close to DTD, in fact I always request Congress Park, Downtown Disney view. For us the the resort does not make the vacation, it's being all together, in a fun place doing fun stuff. SSR is maintained just as the others are! The lush landscaping, the pools etc it's lovely and I've always had clean, well appointed villas. The boat ride to DTD is fun! Though it's not my home resort, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there! I don't get the issues people have with buses, I park my car and let them do the driving!

I personally detest split stays but to each his own! And BLT, well not even it's proximity to MK is enough to get me to stay there! Don't like the decor/cold/sterile feel of the resort!

P.S. Love the Turf CLub restaurant!

Good luck with your decision!

If BC or BW was the 1st night, I would do 1 of them (NOT BOTH) and not if it was in the middle.. I would also wait list the 1 day next to it.

like

1st at BC then move to .. 2-7th at ssr
wait list only BC for 2nd.

there is a small chance you'll get 1 night more, but prolly not the whole trip. I would not move twice :) you will love SSR!!!!!!!!!

Well, I got 3 days at BWV at the beginning which is SWW so I really think proximity beats moving. I have one night at BLT hoping for at least 2. Then I will probably settle in at SSR :thumbsup2 I don't really mind moving at the cool thing is you can switch up ddps and non since they ended that.

Who knows where my reservations will up since I have 45 more days to play with it :rotfl2: Stalking the site seems more effective then waitlist but I have one just in case!

I have found stalking the website to work well....if you have the time. I agree SSR gets a bad rap as we like it. I'm not a fan of split stays either but good luck!

I agree. This happened with us pretty much during the same time last July. At the 30-day mark a lot of availability opened up and after a few days of stalking we got a whole week at BWV. Good luck!

Terri

Update-

I got 6 nights in a row at BWV (our first choice) and the last 2 at BLT, I had one more at BWV but we like BLT.

It took me less than two weeks but lots of stalking and booking 1 night at a time, plus wait lists of 1 nights.

GL to everyone.
