Hi, We're off in a week or so. A couple of q's?

We didn't hire a car on our last visit, but are this time. What level is the "Dollar" desk on in MCO. DO all drivers have to be present at the rental check or just the "lead" driver?

I can't remember much about downtown disney, Is the virgin check in place easy to find? Is there a car park adjacent to it? Does it open at 8am or 9am?

Our return flight is 7.30/8.00pm approx. on a Sunday evening. I'm assuming it's wise to still reach MCO 1hr to 11/2hrs before this, to get through security. Bearing in mind the traffic should be light, what time do you usually leave for the airport? How long does the journey from downtown disney to MCO usually take?

thanks in advance.

Virgin DTD check in is really easy to find.

Do you know the Cirque du Soleil building? It's right near that, but on the car park side (lots of parking spaces nearby).

Definitely allow enough time to get through security. It can take a while! I think I would not want to leave any later than 2 hours before my flight (from the WDW area) just to be on the safe side. Possibly I would allow a bit more than that but I am notoriously paranoid about being late ;)

The dollar desk is one level down from the bag collection. If your flying Virgin there will be big arrows for the Virgin passengers - just follow them.

If you haven't booked your car through dollar just go to the usual Dollar desk and not the special Virgin desk - they're next to each other.

Virgin check-in at DTD is easy to find - it's right next to the car park - as you enter DTD car park go as far left as possible. I would arrive at MCO a minimum of 1.5 hours before your flight - we usually aim for 2 hrs and end up being earlier.

security can be a nightmare at MCO and to make matters worse, it's before you get on the train to take you out to the departure gate, so as a result when they start calling for people who are late to the gate, the people going through security don't hear it..

this past summer we saw three families miss their plane to Puerto Rico because they had been caught in the security line.....one of them was a hugely pregnant woman and her 3 very young children....they all broke down crying (including the poor woman)....and all because of a very stupid system....i cannot understand why the airline didn't make sure these people got through the security line in time..

when we were in the security line, we were in the special line (the specially selected line).....our line was much much shorter....there were several japanese men who begged the security guards to let them move over to the in depth search line (our line) because it was so much shorter and they were going to miss their plane if they stayed in the superficial check line, since it was unbelievably long......
why doesn't the airline help people through these lines (taking those whose flights are soon first) or else hold the planes...

i couldn't believe it....and i couldn't believe they let the plane take off for Puerto Rico without taking those families luggage off....seems like a gross breach of security...

in any case, the point is, leave ample time.....security in MCO can be the pits....

I'm sure all drivers need to be present so that driving licences can be checked.

I think most of your questions have been answered, Virgin DTD opens at 09:00, but I would advise you to get there a bit earlier as it can get busy in the morning.

As Karen says it is fairly easy to find, plenty of car parking there and it is obviously situated at the Planet Hollywood/Virgin Megastore side of DTD.

One thing, when you arrive to check in you will find usually 3 trucks there for your suitcases, 1 for Manchester and 2 for Gatwick, you load your cases onto the applicable truck before q'ing to check-in.

Have a great holiday.
