My sister, her husband, and their 7 year old are about to take their first cruise ever on the Dream 3 night. They have nothing planned for Nassau and are planning to just get off the boat and wander around - I have never been to this port but have read enough to know this might not be the best idea (they are not seasoned travelers either). Any advice I can give them? can they still choose to book a DCL excursion? (I always have booked mine in advance)

When does their ship sail?

If they are within 3 days of boarding, they can go to port adventures when they board and see which excursions are still available.

Thanks. Part of he issue is they still think they don't need one. I'm worried and want them to have a great time.

Soon- Friday or Saturday.

I think we will be on the cruise with them! We are going to get off and walk to Junkanoo Beach. I heard it's okay. If not we'll just walk back and do some shopping. Their 7yr old might like the Pirate Museum? People talk about that but I haven't been there. Good luck to them !

Thank you so much - I will suggest these to them too. I know my sister is excited to shop.:yay:

For those that enjoy a craft brewed beer, there is Pirate Brewing, right outside of the gate to the port on the front street ( to the right as you walk out and about a half a block or so). Worth a stop. Beers cost nearly as much as the do on the ship, but they are cold and the place is usually quiet.

just outside the port gates

you can get a horse and buggy ride ... (negotiate the price)

book one for a city tour (maybe 30 minutes) with being dropped off at

the Pirate Museum .... This is more Museum than kids place but you can EASILY kill an hour ...

as a museum we spent several hours.

but I digress ....

walking back to the ship from here will take you past the straw market

aka FLEA MARKET

if you want 45 NASSAU printed t-shirts for a $1.50, this is your place

else pass and continue to the ship.

POOF ... you have seen most of what Nassau has to offer.

As long as they stay in the main tourist-y area they should be fine just out to walk, pop into a few shops, visit the Straw Market. They don't want to wander outside of that area, though. No need for an excursion if they don't want.

I hope they enjoy their cruise!

We went on a cruise 2 years ago and we just got off the ship in Nassau and walked around with no plans. We did a little shopping and then ate lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe. We were probably only off of the boat for 2-3 hours.

We took the tour of the chocolate factory and were really pleased with the instruction we received. It is very high quality chocolate and they worked at a pace that all could enjoy. You get to take a generous box back with you to the ship as well.

We went to the pirate museum last time in Nassau. Kinda campy (lots of full size displays with mannequins and whatnot) but fun for the kids. For a 7 year old, it might be a hike. If you're ok with pig-a-back ride on the way back, she'd probably enjoy it.

They will be fine. Let them live and learn. Maybe none of the excursions look good to them. My advice - stop worrying and let them have their own experience and fun.

If they're on the Dream, which a three-day would be, they're leaving Friday. Saturday is Fantasy's day for the terminal.
