Last Minute DVC Reservations

Does anyone have experience with making a last minute DVC reservation, perhaps two weeks or less before your desired arrival date?

I'm curious how availability might be in mid July, and whether we'd be able to "get in" anywhere if we opt for a quick trip.

I called about 3 weeks out for a Sunday night in mid October last year. Nothing at any DVC resort, any room size. I booked at POFQ (before the $95 fee).

We were @ OKW last week & we were suppose to leave Sunday night. We decided to extend our stay. On Sunday morning before check out I called MS to see if a 1 bdrm was available for Sunday & Monday. I was quite surprised when the woman said they had OKW & SSR available. Since OKW is our home resort we decided to try SSR after seeing all the rave reviews here on the board. We enjoyed our mini stay @ SSR. We had a view of DTD. Since we were in Disney with 20 family members for our nephews college graduation we decided we needed a vacation from our vacation by ourselves. While at the airport DH had me call to see if they had any availibility for May 26th-30th. Again, I was told OKW & SSR was available. We booked OKW right there at the airport............. Needless to say we leave on Monday morning..........
BTW, we arrived at SSR around 11am to see if we could leave our bags there & they already had a room ready for us This totally impressed us. I can't wait to go home on Monday.

Booked a trip seven days out three nights the first week of March 2008. There were both studios and 1 BR's available at SSR, and a studio available at AKV. JetBlue had a fare sale that I just couldn't pass up if there was a room available. The DVC Gods were smiling on me that day!

Booked a trip one month out for four nights the first week of February 2007. Too bad I got sick the second half of the trip or it would have been awesome.

Call ASAP! We decided on a last-minute trip for July 3rd-8th. I was able to get SSR for the entire stay and the VWL for the middle of our stay. We decided to try and shoot for VWL the entire time, so we are on waitlist for our first & last night. Good Luck!

We tried in January for a quick getaway and there was nothing available. The only thing they could offer were the FW cabins.

We went last Sept 30 for 4 days. We booked the Monday before we left (only 4 days) we were able to get SSR for 2 of the 3 nights and paid cash for AsSports the first night.

My college age daughter and a friend decided to go at the last minute for part of our trip so I called yesterday for a studio at any resort for June 3-5 and was able to get it at OKW. The rest of the family will be staying for a week at BWV. Sometimes you just get lucky.

I called late yesterday afternoon and was able to get a studio at Saratoga from July 19-24.

I just called today and was able to book for June 9 - 13. The only thing available was Saratoga Springs. My DS decided last minute to take a trip to WDW.

I was able to get a 2BR at OKW for early April when I called in early March.

According to the CM I spoke with, it was either that or a studio at SSR.

Luickily, I was looking for a 2 BR at OKW............

Thanks for the responses everyone! We hope to have our points by the end of June, and would want to book a trip to WDW in mid July. Definitely a tight time table, but there's always a remote chance, right?

I called last Saturday and was able to get a studio at SSR(the last one) for this Saturday through Wednesday. I booked the room at 11am in the morning and called back at 2pm to set up ME and the lady told me that she had about 3 calls for this weekend, and nothing was available, I felt so blessed to get that room! I believe that it is all timing! Good luck!

Some of it is timing, but also persistance. When your really close, to the 30 day mark, thats when people cancel trips before points go into holding.

Then with in the 30 days, people do have to cancel for family emergencies, or other problems. Things happen and people have to cancel trips, so calling everyday is probably a good idea. You might get lucky, your more likely to be lucky if its not on the 4th of july holiday. Holidays are always harder.

We've gotten lucky booking ssr with in the month several times. You have to be more flexible with when you travel , with what it open. So the more flexible you are, the better your chances are.

I just called this morning to see if anything was available for July 3rd-6th. They did Also, got a great deal on airfare since we had a credit from last year that we never used. So we'll be home in 5 weeks
