My family leaves for Disney in just 8 days! We are SO excited, as this will be our first time taking a summer vacation there in AGES, but we have made a Disney faux pas and have not yet made all of our dining reservations. Any recommendations for places that are good and may still have reservations available? We are on the dining plan, if that helps. Thanks!

We are a family of true-blue southerners, so comfort food is our go-to! Sometimes we have a hard time pleasing everyone though because while my mom, my husband and I enjoy trying new foods, and foreign cuisine, my dad, brother, and kids are super picky and only want chicken and burgers and fries all the time! Usually we just end up sacrificing new experiences for the familiar to make them happy, which is disappointing with all Disney has to offer...

You may still be able to find reservations at quite a few places, but you'll have to be flexible with the time of day you go. I recommend Lunches or late lunch/early dinners as much as possible.

Places that may still have availability that serve comfort food (among other things and some will have characters):

50s Prime Time Cafe
Beaches and Cream
Chef Mickey's
House of Blues
1900 Park Fare
Crystal Palace
Garden Grill
Grand Floridian Cafe
Olivia's
The Plaza
Sci-Fi Dine In
Whispering Canyon

And there are other restaurants with more unique offerings, but remember just about every restaurant will serve you a steak or a burger.

I would suggest that you log into Disneyworld.com, click on Things to Do....choose Make Reservations....plug in your date and which meal (breakfast, lunch dinner) or time and it will show you a list of everything that is available. If you have already made FP, then you'll probably want to match you FP and dining to the same park so you don't waste a lot of time travelling for eating, or to a nearby resort. For example....I plugged in 4 people on July 10 at noon.....there are literally dozens of choices....more restaurants with available ADRs than those that do not have. Some of our favorites are 50's, Boma, Biergarten, Le Cellier (but remember this is a 2 credit meal), O'Hanas, Rainforest Café, Marrakesh, Sci-Fi, Teppan Edo, Toyko Dining....and the list goes on.

You can even get a Fantasmic dinner!

That is great news! I'm going to check it out now. Thanks!

You may want to go with some resort restaurants. Shutters, Boatwright's, Olivia's and Trails End come to mind and may give you the Southern comfort you're looking for. Surely one of them has burgers and fries for some while letting others explore their pallets, lol.

I think a call to the dining reservation number and each day ask what is available...they helped us out one time when we had ddp and it was a very sudden decision to go...or try the dining reservation link and see if there are any that you like or prefer...I love Ohana and the wait person said that going at 5 pm to the podium sometimes gets people in for dinner...it may be an hour or so..but it works sometimes.

The Plaza, Beaches n' Cream, and 50's Prime Time Cafe are allgreat. Take from this NC girl! :)
