Last minute december trip

Ok, I know it is very last minute but for the last two weeks I have been trying to get a room 19-23 Dec at any DVC resort and have no luck. I am on two wait lists, what are my chances?

There's a thread here about someone calling a few times a day to build a reservation day by day. That may be the only way to get your reservation, one day at a time. But that will affect your waitlists and you don't have much time. Do you have a backup reservation?

december is one of the busiest times for DVC...many owners book at 11 months to make sure they have something.

so your chances at 1 month out are pretty low.

Well, it is getting to be close to 30 days for cancellation time. We are on the fence about having to cancel our AKL Christmas reservation due to a family issue. You might see something open up in the next week or two, but I would think there would be other waitlists ahead of you since it is so soon.
I'm not sure how successful you will be in getting all of your days without a split stay? Good Luck!

It may depend on when you got on the wait list. There could be lots of members ahead of you.

If you really want to go in Dec, you may need to book something on cash.

"last minute" and "December trip" don't work well in the same sentence.

As others have said, any time from Thanksgiving through the end of the year is very high DVC usage period. You can try the suggested strategies but honestly this is a period that really needs to be booked at 11 months to give you the best shot.

Well, a couple years ago we were able to get a week during Easter at SSR about 3 or 4 weeks out. But we had to do as suggested and book what days were open and and then keep calling back and adding days as they freed up. We did have to spend 4 nights in a 1-bedroom and then move the remaining nights into a studio. Call and see what individual nights are open where and see if you can piece something together. I would stick to SSR or OKW. It is more likely to have new openings there as you get closer. Of course you are taking quite a chance after the 30 day cancelation date.

Highly doubtful. There have been a few posters stating the same thing just this week. If you just joined a December waitlist a couple of weeks ago, you most likely will not get it. There have been long waitlists already in place for months for December dates, I am afraid.

I would suggest trying to make another reservation such as at a Disney resort, or even offsite. Good luck.

I checked back yesterday and I can go with a moderate resort like CBR and pay the $95 fee. It will cost 116 pts

If you have the points to use and really want to go then and don't mind not having the DVC amenities like the kitchen or kitchenette or free laundry, have at it. Plus the beds are smaller at CBR. Can you get Coronado Springs where they at least have queen sized beds instead of doubles?

Just wanted to jump in as hubby checked for availability of that week too, and there is nothing available, so we checked for cash nights at non-DVC resorts, and there are a few room only discount promos showing up. Value resorts are like $100.00/night (tax included) and Moderates are around $150-$160/night (tax included).

These cash prices seem pretty good, so I would check online first, before using your points and paying the fee. If you decide to do so, that's great (we have done so too as cash rates were too high at the time), but at least you can check cash rates first.

I called on October 15 for availabilty in December for any dates. December 12 thru December 19 was open for a 1 bedroom at SSR so I jumped on that. I wait listed for one night on December 11 and that came thru a couple of days later. Now I am waitlisted for BWV for a 1 bedroom preferred or standard view those dates.

I called on Oct 26th for trip from 11/27 - 12/3 and was able to get a studio at SSR for all days except 12/1. We waitlisted and it came thru on 10/30. I'm guessing it's probably a little easier to get a reservation end of Nov-first days of Dec compared to mid-late December but it's still worth a try. If not i would stay at the value resort.

I've had reservations for December 26th - January 2nd at SSR and AKV between Christmas and New Years for about six months. I have a two day gap Dec 29 and Dec 30th. Still waiting but not hopeful. I may cancel all since I haven't booked the air yet which seems to climb in price by the day and at this point we'd need to arrive dec 24th and leaver Jan 4th.

So I have my fingers crossed for you. I know we will probably be canceling our waitlist and sticking to our 2bd at OKW. We were only WL to do a split stay and the more I think about it the more I want to stay put for the 9 days.

Thanks so much we are waitlisted for a studio. I will call tomorrow and see if anything is available. I may pay cash for those two days at SSR or AKV. I would love to just have our stay at one resort akv. My hubby doesn't like to switch resorts he gets annoyed!
Cancel day is next week so only time will tell!

Not sure if any of you have access to RCI but, I am getting ready to cancel an exchange I was able to get for the week of the 17 to 24 at WL Studio. Something better came up (BW 1 br )and since I purchased exchange insurance, I'll probably give this one back to RCI tomorrow.
