Last minute DCL cruise?

We will be arriving WDW 10/5. Had planned 5 days there, but am now beginning to wonder if crowds there (50th anniversary time) might not be more of a risk than DCL? We did the Dream 3-day August 27 and never felt at risk, and that was before the vaccine requirement for all 12+ and before the port testing for everyone. If the parks are manic when we arrive 10/5 I’m seriously thinking about bailing the last 3 days in favor of the 10/8 Dream sailing (3-day). But for a variety of reasons I don’t want to make that decision until we get to WDW and size things up. It would be a spur of the moment decision to book like 48 hours in advance.

So my questions:
1) Has anyone done this in these challenging times? I was all preset and cleared for the 8/27 cruise, but even if 48 hours would be insufficient time to clear Safe Passage this go round I could bring everything to port right? And while we are all vaccinated we’d need a port test anyway this time.
2) has anybody heard whether DCL will allow these kinds of last minute bookings in this strange new world? I imagine they will take my money even day of? And I highly doubt the sailing will reach “max capacity,” however that is defined these days. I also highly doubt the pricing changes between now and, say, 10/6.

Appreciate any insight if anyone has done this, or even just thoughts from this wonderful community (yes, I could and likely will call DCL to ask; just not looking forward to 2 hours on hold). Thanks !

In the past, you could book a cruise up through the day prior to embarkation. You just needed to do so by phone if during the last couple of days prior because the cruise is removed from online ~3 days prior. With the current need to upload documentation in advance, I don't know if they still allow such last-minute bookings. I recommend calling DCL to confirm. It would seem in your situation with everyone vaccinated, plus you already have a SafePassage account, that your plan would work if they allow it.
