Last minute cash nights at VB

Has anyone ever had luck getting a cash night with a discount at the last minute at VB? I emailed about adding a cash night onto our stay from 10/9- 10/13 and I was told they currently do not have any 1 BRs for cash or with the
DVC discount. I didn't know if that could change - since it's already past the 31 day mark, I doubt that there will be cancellations. Anyone with experience in this? We're hoping to add Friday night 10/13 to our reservation. Would it be possible to add it once we get there if there is availability?

Yes, actually.

We had a Beach Cottage for the Sunday and Monday night of Labor Day weekend.

We booked an Inn room for Friday and Saturday night on cash... several months in advance.

Fast forward to the Monday before Labor Day weekend, and my parents asked if I could get them a (cash) room for Saturday night.

I started calling, then called back each day through Thursday. On Thursday, the CM put me on hold for quite some time, then came back and had a studio for them.

Imagine my surprise when I went down to the front desk on Saturday morning to check into their room (so it would be ready when they arrived), and their reservation had been upgraded to a 2BR!!!! It was the first time in our 9-year membership that I had EVER gotten an upgrade!

As it turns out... the reason the resort was so full was because there was a big wedding party there for the weekend, as well as a big anniversary party. We ate breakfast Saturday morning (in Sonya's because of the character breakfast in Shutter's) - and it seemed as if everyone in the restaurant knew each other!

Anyway - this is just one example. We've done some similar last minutes on points at VB in the past, too.

Thanks - you give me hope! I had emailed and received a reply, but I didn't know whether to keep trying or not. Maybe I'll call the next few times!

Yes, I would keep trying. I got a room on points last minute by calling every few days before the trip. That was in may.

We will be at VB starting on the 13th. I have an ocean view inn room for the first 2 nights and then a 1 bedroom on points after that. I have been checking for 1 bedroom for cash for the 13th and 14th as well for a few months and no luck - full price or member discount. But we have decided to keep the ocean view inn room to try it out.

Keep calling, I bet you get it!
