Last long runs are coming....

Many runners will be making their second to the last really long run this weekend or next. Make sure to hydrate well going into your weekends and practice nutrition that you think you will be using over race weekend.

Note the little thoughts that help get you though tough spots. These little cues will help get you through those same spots on race day. Slow and steady in training will help with these long runs. Remember that. If you have not purchased yet, your body will love you if you get a new pair of shoes for race day. Make a few runs on them and then put them up.

Think about all the little hot spots that you develop on these runs. Lube up those little hot areas pre run. Practice like it was race day. While runners lube helps immensely, too much or in the wrong spots can create issues.

A word about NSAIDs. Refrain from taking NSAIDs 12 house before or after a long run. The use of these can cause kidney problems in endurance athletes.

I can add from experience...get those long runs in but don't stress out. Try to relax and have fun out there on the trails/roads. As Coach said, practice and get used to your method of fueling (GU, sportbeans, etc.)...but come race day know that you will rely on your training to a certain point, and then your natural will and mental power will take over.

Nothing better than crossing the line and getting your first medal...it's such an amazing experience!!
 
Every time I get to this point it is with mixed emotiond. It is a moment of awe that I am actully putting in these miles, one of trial if I might come upon a better way and also one of panic. Then it is the fact that I love peaking in the cooler months. It is so much better than putting in those long steps in the hot humid weather.

Really? I have three more and then a three week taper. Do people do five weeks od taper?
 

I've got 20 this weekend, cut back next weekend, 20 on 12/18, then three weeks taper.
