Since this may well be our final trip to Disney World we wanted to hit all our old favorites and make sure to see all the new things on our lists. Months of reading the boards and previous trips had prepared us for our 10 day (extended to 12 days) trip.

We had to delay our trip to be home for Trick or Treat. Ran out of candy in the first hour (250+ bags). Up early the next morning to do some serious driving so we could check in to the ASsp early enough the next day to be able to do something. Got thru Atlanta (rush hour), breathed a sigh of relief and found a cheap, clean and near food motel. Up early the next day and up the road before daybreak. On property and into the parking lot without getting lost one tiny bit. Checked in with a short wait and found that our room was in Bldg 10 as requested and it was accessible which meant a King bed (necessary) and fridge (nice). Would have liked being a tiny bit closer to the main bldg but we could walk around back which was a bit closer although not very pretty. We were pretty close to the parking lot but it filled up quickly and sometimes was difficult to find a close space. Sent DH up to investigate the area while I unpacked. The microwave goes on the luggage rack back in the closet along with the box of convenience foods to make our stay more relaxing not to mention a lot cheaper. Glancing over the pages given at check in I can see that the info on DIS is a lot more up to date than what they gave me. Still telling of EE and I KNOW t hat the park times are not right. Since the parks were closing so early that night it was not worth trying to get in so we decided to drive across property to Crossroads and check out Jungle Jim's. Internet coupon for a free appetizer in hand we ventured out. It was slightly interesting and the food was not bad. Glad the appetizer was free tho since it was not that much of a much. DH had a steak and I had one of their 'famous' hamburgers. It is sort of a toned down RFC type place. Server was nice but it was ok once but not worth a repeat IMHO. Drove back to the resort after dark (I am night blind AND directionally challenged so this was no mean feat). 1,000 miles down and off property and back and I did not get lost a bit. Parked in the lot and our room was only about 10 up and I could not find it. Must have been the confusing room #. (0123) LOL Early night with all that driving and we wanted to be up and in AK early. It did not open until 9 am. (sigh)

Had corned beef hash, bagel and cream cheese and juice in the room. Think the food courts were bad before? Try it with everyone trying to get into the parks at the same time because of the short hours. Faced with the security lines I found that they were cursory and no one asked me to open my camera bag let alone check to see if it was a real working camera. All show, no go. Lion King show walk in. Had a guy asking people to go in! Went on the Killanjaro Safari for the first time, was able to ride up front and it was not bouncy at all. Used a FP. Not as many animals as I might have thought. Too late in the day? Had front row seats for a walk in for the Tarzan Rocks show. This is one of our favorites. Name might put some people off but we love it. Used a FP for Dinosaur but then got up there and decided that it was not for me and my balance problems. Ate at the Rain Forest Cafe on our way out of the park. I like the food well enough but do wish it were a bit quieter and I am hearing impaired. Service was much better than it has been in the past. Not too many places to eat at AK before and now they have closed down some.

Another couple of days later after I get some work done around here. Anyone have questions I will be glad to give my opinion. I have loads of them. (smile and grin) This is my first trip report so please bear with my verbosity, pomposity and any other 'ity' I might throw at you. :p

I remember you talking about this trip Labor Day weekend - waving hi there

Glad to hear your trip is starting off on the right foot and you didn't get lost on the way there. Thank for posting!

Hi Marla

I think I remember which person you were at the meet. Thank you for remembering me. I was concerned that people would think I was standoffish. I have a hearing disability and it is very hard for me to talk to more than one or two people at a time.

I tend to ramble cause I type so fast so I hope everyone will be patient with my ineptitude. LOL

Have you got a trip planned soon?

Slightly, enjoying your trip report thus far and anxious to read more!

Hi there A&H;s Mom

Bet you have spent some time in Andy's Room. LOL I just love the little touches that surprise guests at DW. That is the magic, the attention to detail. Glad you could plow through my massive missive. (grin)

Great report so far, I'm looking forward to reading more. Can't believe they were actually asking people to go to the Lion King show. Usually it gets totally packed!

Hi there Swanky

Yep, I was a bit surprised at being accosted to go to the show also. I have seen such before as we usually go 'off season'. It was not too arduous to follow the 'orders'. It seems that it was either feast or famine on t his trip as regards crowds. Only knowing the experiences of where we were I cannot state what the situation in the other parks were. It was probably a bit of planning (No MGM on soap weekend etc.) and a bit of luck (most of the time). I have found that if you just go with the flow and enjoy where you are without worrying about what you MIGHT be missing you generally have a good time.

Hope your next trip is all you wish for.

were always outside the attractions asking if we would like to enter.......I am glad that you had a good time.....We enjoyed part of the Animal Kingdom area.......some of it went on and on and on.......Thanks for posting a good start to your trip

Hi Pumba

Isn't 'off' season the best? After going in the summer (when we had kids at home) it was so awesome when we went alone for the first time off season. I love DW but cannot handle the crowds well. It was mixed feelings this time tho as I did not want to low crowds to be because of 9/11.

I used a GAC for the first time. I had always resisted it in years past cause I did not want to jump lines. This was a great relief as it allowed me to sit on the sidelines until my turn came up without causing anyone else any problems. Sometimes we focus a bit too much on what goes wrong but it is important to applaud the good ideas also.

Did you enjoy Tarzan Rocks? It is my DH's favorite show. I love the Lion King show also. The Pooh sized lady that sings just blows me away. Wonder if it is taped or live? Would be hard to be live and that good every time?

This is a great beginning. What a great idea to take a microwave with you. Did you have a fridge too?

My only problem with Tarzan Rocks is I believe they need more Tarzan and less Rocks ;)

Thanks for posting this.

Thanks for the report! I actually had TOO much halloween candy this year--it is still in the cupboard!LOL

Hey Misti, where were you and your extra candy when I needed you? Maybe next year you could come by and help me out. LOL

Howdy Nativetxn, we meet again! I bought a small microwave a few years ago just to take to Disney. It cost about $40 and I figured if we used it just one trip it would pay for itself. IMHO it is much safer and more convenient and versitile than some of the small appliances that people take to DW. There is a wide selection of microwaveable products. Even tho they are a bit too expensive for everyday life they fit well for vacations. No one at the resorts has blinked an eye so I believe we may not be the only ones to think of doing so. No, refrigerator. We usually get one in our acessible room but to tell the truth a cooler works better anyway. I keep everything nice and neat so the maid does not have more work to do. We prefer to avoid the food courts early and late.

Yep, the name Tarzan Rocks is a bit of a misnomer. I enjoy the show and don't pay any attention to the name of the show. I could see where kids could get the wrong idea of what to expect and be disappointed. High energy show.
