I'm new here and was hoping someone can give me some pointers. I'm a new mom (daughter is 6 months) and I've been trying to loose those last 10 pounds from my pregnancy for months now. Does anyone have any tips on what I can do/try? I had a C-Section so I was pretty sore for a long time, but everything is healed up now. Normally I would do some daily walks with my daughter in the buggy, but being winter (and living in Canada) Snow is NOT MY FRIEND!

Thanks for the tips.

Michelle, what do you have available to you? Do you belong to a gym (some have daycare)? Do you have a treadmill, elliptical, any exercise equipment? If not, there are some great videos out there to help you along in your weight loss. The most important thing to remember is if you wanna lose it, you've gotta move it!! :thumbsup2

Hi Michelle,

:welcome: to the DIS boards and WISH!!!

Both of my kids were via C-section too. I'm so glad your not sore anymore.

My biggest advice for you is to join our Biggest Loser 7 Challenge here on the WISH boards. The motivation is great, and it ends at the end of March. That is plenty of time to lose 10lbs and you could SO do that. Just hop on over to the thread and join us. The best way would be to weigh yourself today, AND START TODAY - and then weigh in again on Friday (you should still be able to lose a little) - but it will then align you with our normal weigh in day.

Now for how to do it:

I've done weight watchers and and now do calories. I find calories the easiest.

Go to www.sparkpeople.com and sign up. They will give you a calorie range based on your age, height and other factors.

For instance, my range is 1200-1550 in calories per day. I can lose if I keep it within that range, but I usually try to have some lower calorie, mid calorie and high calorie days to keep my body guessing. I try to stay within that range, but can still do good having one day above the high if I use that as one of my high calorie days.

Do you nurse? If not, then you won't have to worry - if you do - http://babyfit.sparkpeople.com/ might be able to help. I know that you add so many extra calories when nursing. If that doesn't help, I can probably help you find the answer. You would just make sure you eat these extra calories each day, but you can still lose weight since your body uses the extra calories for the baby.

For exercise - Since it's been 6 months, you should have no problem jumping into a routine. I know what you mean about the cold. Maybe when the baby is napping, you can get a workout video and use that. Leslie Sansone has some great walking (walk away the pounds) that you do indoors - your basically walking in place. I'd also work on getting some light weights and starting to add some resistance.

PM me if you need more help, I know its hard to get started, but 10lbs is so do-able with a plan.

Michelle, I thnk you've received great advice so far.

The best thing you can do is get moving and think positive. You can do this!

Congratulations on your new Mom-ness. Enjoy all the moments you can. Don't forget to work toward being healthy for you and your family will enjoy those benefits too.

Michelle,

I just wanted to say congratulations to you.

Lisa

Also, I always find that interval programs - cardio/weight moves/cardio/weight moves, continually for a specific time always takes off weight. But I have never been pregnant - unfortunately and I'm not yet at my last ten pounds. Yet. :lmao:

Best of luck to you. And congratulations again.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement everyone.

Unfortunately I have just hit a HUGE set back. About 4 hours after I posted this my husband, daughter and myself were in a car accident. Both my husband and daughter are ok, as I took the brunt of the impact. As a result I have several bruised ribs, lots of swelling and a fractured pelvic bone. Guess I'll have to wait a while (who knows how long) until I can get started on my "pregnancy weight loss". :sad2:

Thanks again, and when I'm ready to get started I'll be back for some help/advice and encouragement. In the mean time, I hope you are all doing well with your own goals.

:grouphug: and  to you and your family.

I hope your healing process is a smooth one. Stop in here to visit anytime and when you are ready to get to work losing that weight we will be here waiting for you.
