The background story is here - a post another board has a photo of a sign announcing the closeout sale. The DTD Department 56 store will supposedly close in early January.
Noooooooooooooo! That is awful! Of all the DTD stores that fit in DLR and complement it, I think Dept. 56 is at the top of the list! I think it is a perfect addition to DTD! I cannot believe they are shutting down that store! Well, thanks for letting us know, Perlster. I will be there in a few days and was planning on visiting Dept. 56 anyway, so now I KNOW I will try to go in there and buy something on sale. That makes me so annoyed that they won't be there anymore but other places remain in DTD.
Yes, closing a Dept. 56 store really detracts from DTD since its products are such a good fit, with their "Main Street USA" look. I especially enjoyed the Christmas sets.
Perlster, did you see the great Halloween amusement park village in Dept. 56 too? It was amazing! That store flows so well with the whole Disney vibe. Initially I questioned some of the choices in shops at DTD, but then I realized that DTD wasn't necessarily supposed to be an exclusively Disney place, and more of a mall-type setting. So, okay, that makes sense. And even though Basin and Sephora are decidedly un-Disney, I love those stores so I am always happy to visit them when I am there!
But Dept. 56 is a special store. I think that and Build-a-Bear are a really good fit, and of all the places they have to shut down, why that one? Well, I guess they are closing Libby Lu, too, aren't they?
And Courtney, I think I heard the same thing you heard too about that tarped off section of Dept. 56. I had no clue they were actually closing that whole store location!

No clue. Maybe someone here will know. Unless they are replacing Dept. 56 with a whole store of Disney-specific houses and villages (like the ToonTown houses and the Haunted Mansion scultures, etc.), then I don't know what they could put in Dept. 56's place that would be better!!! I AM sure that quite a few stores and vendors would like to get into some of that prime DTD space, because that is such a huge market for tourists, so I am sure there will be many competitors fighting for those open spaces! Maybe they will add in an American Girls place somewhere. I bet that would be hugely popular. Even though it is a more mall-like place than it is an overall Disney-type place, I suspect we won't be seeing a Victoria's Secret store showing up in DTD any time soon!!! No Frederick's of Hollywood anywhere!
That's hilarious! A bra shop on Main Street! Today, it seems so out of place on any kind of Disney property. But one never knows - maybe DLR and lingerie aren't such strange companions after all!
