Lasseter Taking Sabbatical over "Missteps"

The truth is that there is no fact in this article, taken from the Hollywood Reporter, a bias entertainment site. There is absolutely no accusation by Rashida Jones. There actually is no official legal accusation against Lasseter from anyone. There is an undisclosed source to the Hollywood Reporter that we have no idea who is, written and compiled only for an article. There is an employee memo from Lasseter that has no admittance to legal misconduct in response to the article. But a respectable leader would take an absense just out of respect of cause for the investigation, if there even will be one, since there is no announced suit against him yet. No one here knows what is fact, everything is unofficial alleged hearsay, with exception of the memo. We will have to wait to talk about fact until an investigation, or at least until someone officially speaks up and not just a secret source.

Much love to all you DIS people out there :grouphug::disrocks::mickeybar

However Disney is almost known for paying off complaints. Look at the YeeHaw Bob accusations or even a guest complaint in a park. They give a guest a FP to "pay off" their complaints.
If they paid her off over her allegation against Bob, they would have required her to sigh a non-disclosure agreement.

It’ll be interesting how the next few days play out. As others have suggested, he could be getting out in front of this because accusations could be coming out. But that all remains to be seen

Oh this is so bad. It breaks my heart. I am grossed out by the six month vacation and "missteps."
You can't possibly predetrimine how long it will take you to fix decades of offense. Also don't use words like missteps, like you are a two footed dancer.
Mostly, as a fan....this one really hurts, probably more then anyone else at Disney would hurt.
If Iger and others were covering for John, a chief executive, my annoyance at the lack of Trump in HOP will become three fold.

It does take away any desire I have to see Coco in theaters...I figure I can now just wait til the day of the dead next year and watch it on my Netflix subscription (and not reward Disney for this cover-up)...

DH and I have been discussing the topic of workplace "inappropriateness" for lack of a better term. I have been a victim but extremely briefly. You see, I followed company protocol with respect to harassment, conduct etc. and reported properly to the HR department. I received a satisfactory response. The offender was dealt with according to policy and it never happened again. "Hostile Workplace" and "Sexual Harassment" policies have been in place in most workplaces since the 80's. Where were these people then?

Personally I think boycotting or changing if you were going to see a film based on this is unfair to those who worked on said films. Sure Lasseter is head of Disney animation but this wasn’t his film. Lee Unkrich and his team did great work.

But Lee and his team aren't getting the money for this project...they already got paid and won't get any more funds no matter how this movie does, unless Disney has residuals contracts or performance bonuses (which I doubt)...

If nobody sees their work that’s just depressing for them. They put years of time and effort into creating something for us to enjoy. If you created a film and no one showed up how would you feel? I will see it despite this. If this was a film directed by Lasseter I would understand.

I'm sure the director will have great Netflix numbers next fall, so people will see it...they just don't have to pay Disney any direct funds for it...since Disney corporate is the only one getting rewarded by ticket sales at the point of release...

Agree to disagree.

I agree with you that boycotting the movies doesn’t do any good. But it’s statements like this

that were the reason that apology statement came out. The Weinstein Company lost how much when everything surfaced? Disney can’t afford that kind of scandal. Well, they can, but park admission would probably jump to $300 a day or something crazy. And Iger May have to leave sooner than he wants and depending on what can be proven about what/if he knew and when he may also lose that golden parachute. I feel those types of situations are the reason that statement was released before accusations hit the news. Ok, that’s all I will say about Lasseter’s statement. I’ll move on.

I have just spent some time reading up on Pete Doctor, including his Reddit AMA. The jury is still out for me, I don't know enough about him yet. I am interested to hear other people's take though.

I also don't know why people think Iger is going anywhere, I think Disney has far more immediate headaches and won't have any desire to make things worse. I don't see anyone internally seriously thinking Iger leaving would help anything.

It also makes me wonder.... I kind of always was surprised John was never more seriously considered for Iger's replacement. Yeah, I never thought he was right but I was surprised he wasn't more a serious contender.
Now, I think "oh, that's why."

If there is no accusations coming he would not have step down for his “misstep”

Pete Doctor has been with the company for a while and has done a lot of good things. Up, Inside Out, and Monsters Inc. which were all successes.

Here is some big news...

Rashida Jones came forward after this news and said she did not leave the company due to unwanted advances. She and Will McCormack left due to creative and philosophical differences. They remain enormous fans of Pixar films but Pixar is a culture where women and people of color haven't had equal opportunities. They hope Pixar can be more encouraging and promote more diverse and female story tellers.

I haven’t read the statement, but it seems like she isn’t denying they happened but that it wasn’t the reason she left. Of course, I could be reading into it too much

I think that is it. The Hollywood Reporter made it seem as if she left because of misconduct but that is not the case. She brought another case forward though. The lack of diversity at Pixar is definitely noticeable.
