We need a room in or around Vegas for 1 night on our way to Disneyland. Nothing fancy but clean is an absolute must. Its so hard to tell anything from just looking online. Or would you just go and find a place when we get there? At least that way we could check out the room and try another place if we don't like it. It will be a Saturday night so I don't know if that will make a difference.

Any thoughts are appreciated! I tried to do a search for this topic but search is turned off.

Ballys has clean and pretty cheap rooms we stayed there last summer and the rooms were decent sized too :)

On or off strip..what do you consider cheap?...we stayed on the strip for around $125 a night, it depends what day of the week it is, Saturday is the most expensive night in Vegas hotels.

I've been doing a little research for our August trip to celebrate my sister's 21st birthday. I stumbled across this site which may be helpful:www.cheapovegas.com . My mom wants to stay at Mandalay Bay because their pool is supposed to be the best on the strip, but that's not a cheap place.

If you pass through on a weekday, you can get a room for alot less. When are you going? Right now, they're offering deals for April, maybe May. Also, are you even planning on doing anything in town? Maybe you could find on the outskirts of the city.

Also, Saturday night is tough. I think the big strip hotels may not rent for one night on the weekends. It has been awhile since the last time I was there, but I seem to remember reading about that policy.

Palace Station has nice, reasonable rooms. They are just off the Strip on Sahara Blvd. (Sort of behind Circus Circus) They also have several good restaurants.

I recommend paying the extra for a tower room, though.

The best prices we've found on the strip were always at Excalibur, and I always had good experiences there. If you are interested in staying Downtown, and seeing the Freemont Street Experience, I like staying at Fitzgeralds. We've stayed there several times and had good experiences there too.

Gold Coast. It's a half-mile from the strip (Caesar's) on Flamingo. I like that because you don't need to deal with strip traffic (where every hour is rush hour.) The hotel runs a free shuttle to the strip (every 15 minutes or so until midnight). It's also right across the street from the swank Palms. Depending on the time of year, you can get a room there for $50/night. The rooms are very clean, nice sized, and the casino is not filled with smoke. It's where the locals stay.

Liz,

Have you thought about trying Priceline? Vegas is one of those cities where I think Priceline would work well, because I think they have lots of hotels that participate. Try the biddingfortravel.com website, to get an idea of what hotels come up, and at what price.

:teeth: We're going in August for DD's birthday ....and planning on Mandalay Bay for the pool area. (DD's request)

I went to Fitzgeralds.. its the older part of town.. Fremont area.. but it was only $40 a night!

Thanks for the tips!! I'm checking them all out! So far Ballys is the only one I've checked and they have no vacancies for the night we need so on to the next suggestion!

We don't really care whether we stay on the strip or not. None of us gamble. There are two families totaling 10 of us. Six of the 10 are children.

We usually drive straight through to DL (a little over 12 hrs.) but since we're traveling with another family this time and they have little kids we're splitting up the trip going down and driving straight through coming back (just our family).

A few years ago we stayed at a Hampden Inn for one night in Vegas as we drove from here in Colorado to San Diego. We didn't care if it was on the strip or not. Vegas was just the halfway point for our drive.

My sister's birthday is in August too. For a second, I thought you might be my mom, but since my parents live 1/2 hour from Disneyland, I doubt she'd have a countdown timer in her signature :jester:
