Las Vegas info

We're back to Yes for LV now - flying straight there after LAX, then 2 full days, then leave mid-morning to drive to the Grand Canyon for 2 nights (then DL! woo hoo!!). I think I'll be happier if I can find a hotel where we don't have to walk through a smoky casino to get to our rooms, I hate smoke especially around the kids.

I love Vegas. There are all the on Strip hotels/casinos/resorts, and then there are the off Strip hotel/casinos/resort. There are actually some great family friendly timeshares south of the Strip - Worldmark, Cancun, even the Southpoint casio is pretty family friendly for a casino. The off Strip places are really cheap compared to what you pay on the Strip (it's like off-site and on-site pricing at DisneyWorld) I think going to Vegas first, off-Strip, a couple of lazy days getting over jetlag, with small excursions to the Strip could be great. Lots of the off Strip places have amazing pools (eg Cancun)

My advice would be to stay on the strip. It is much easier to walk out of your hotel and walk up and down and visit the other hotels. Each place is so big, that it is quite a lot of walking just to get through say Caesars or Venetian, they are huge.

MGM is nice but it is on one end of the strip. The walk area from MGM towards M&M world, is also getting very very crowded and a little seedy in the evening.

I personally would not recommend excalibur other than for its price. love visiting the casino itself, but it is very smoky and rowdy compared to other casino's, and appears much more crowded. We love the Palazzo if the budget allows, or Flamingo for location, great pool and ok rooms. I suppose you need to have a look at what types of rooms you are happy with, budget etc, and then look at your options on and off the strip.

Just stay away from Circus Circus! Ok to visit but not to stay there.
