I am so torn on hotels, I have Belagio booked but thinking now on Mandalay bay. Anyone have any insite on the best place to stay as far as not allot of kid..I am going to be there Dec 26-28.

We stayed at the Mandalay Bay about two years ago. It is a beautiful hotel. It is not themed like most of the others. Just very classy. If you were going in the summer I would say they would have lots of kids due to the wonderful pool area. Wave pool, lazy river, etc. As it's very cold in the winter there I wouldn't think that would be a draw. I haven't stayed at the Belagio but did walk through. Another great choice. Good luck.

From what I remember, Mandalay Bay is at the far end of the strip (please correct me if I am wrong!). Bellagio is closer to the middle of the strip, more central to everything - just something to think about. :thumbsup2

You are correct. Mandalay Bay is the last one next to Luxor. I found it was less crowded than others because of that.

On the strip I would say go with Location. Bellaigo is smack right in the middle great location & great hotel. I have friends who have stayed at both & have said they felt far away from everything at MB. Both Hotels are beautifull but I would stay with Belliago.

You are right and that is a big dilemma for me, but it is closer to the airport then Bellagio....the rooms are bigger, I know I know, I am wlways telling others it isn't your residency and I have to remember it isn't mine either, only 3 nights....going away can be so sterssful. I am going with my DS (24) Oh these decisions are hard :sunny:

It looks like a beautiful hotel! We didn't get to see it last time - hopefully we can see it next time!!!

I guess it depends on what you are going to spend your time doing? Are you planning on walking the strip a lot and touring the assorted hotels, shows, and casinos? In that case, the Bellagio might be a good choice, as it is more central to the strip. If you are planning on more rest and relaxation, then Mandalay Bay might be a better choice. :confused3 I'm not helping much, am I? :rotfl:

I know what you mean about getting stressed! DH and I are going for the first time. We talked about the Bellagio but I kind of liked what I sawe about the Venetian better. Many ranked the Bellagio the best LV hotel or second to only the Wynn soo I called my TA and went with the Bellagio. I was told that lakeview was fantastic so I booked that.

That is a help to me, I never thought of it that way. Another thing is it is less money to stay at Mandalay bay so is that a bigger factor then location, I don't know, this is my first time going to DL then Vegas, I am actually scared that for the money I am spending I will mess up.

To be honest, either will be wonderful. Although we've never stayed at MB, we often head down that way to eat/see shows. (We have stayed at Luxor) There's a bus called The Deuce which for 5 bucks, you can ride all day long (or it's 2 bucks a ride). It travels the whole strip and down into old town, so it really doesn't matter where you stay.

However, I also do not find it that bad to walk (unless I'm in heels for a show or dinner--then it sucks), as long as it's not the summer time.

As the above poster said, decide what it is you're going to do. If all of the places you eat and shows you see are mid-strip, stay at Bellagio. If you don't mind travelling (it's proabably a 20-30 minute walk from MB to Bellagio), stay at MB. Wow, that was really helpful :) sorry :)

As an aside, The Burger Bar (between Luxor and MB in a mall called Mandalay Place) is a GREAT place for lunch or dinner--so fun and the food is excellent. We also love Mon Ami Gabi at the Paris Las Vegas. And, if you are going to see a Cirque Show, see KA at MGM, it's my favorite of the bunch. It's amazing.

If you stay at MB it's not very difficult at all to get down the strip. It will have you doing a little walking but not a ton if you don't want to. Take the free monorail from MB to Excalibur, Walk across the street to MGM and take the monorail *for a fee* up and down the strip. There is a stop right across from the Bellagio at the Paris/Flamingo and voila you are there. The monorail will take you down as far as a short bus ride to Freemont street and all the way back to MGM. The fee based monorail is on the opposite side of the strip than Bellagio and it goes behind those hotels all the way down.

If you want to be close to all of the action of the strip all the time then the Bellagio might be for you. If that doesn't matter then MB would be fine. As for MB being closer to the airport...it's closer but Bellagio isn't that much further away.

As for the kids I am not much help but I do know that the Bellagio encourages those with kids under the age of 18 to find another suitable hotel. They will allow kids but as a rule they try to steer those with kids somewhere like Excalibur or the Luxor.

From the Bellagio website

You must be 18 years of age or a registered hotel guest to enter Bellagio.

The following exceptions apply to minors who are at least 5 years of age and accompanied by an adult at least 18 years of age:

Restaurant reservations for Michael Mina, FIX, Sensi, Circo, Jasmine, Le Cirque, Picasso, Shintaro or Prime
Attending a wedding in our Wedding Chapels
Attending a convention function
Attending a performance of "O"
Gallery of Fine Art
Children of hotel guests and non-hotel guests are allowed if accompanied by an adult. Non-hotel guests with children must have their tickets in hand prior to arriving to Bellagio.
Visiting a Via Bellagio shop by appointment only
Strollers are allowed for hotel guests only.

Just thought I'd show you their policy on under 18 guests.

We stayed at Mandalay Bay last year for a friend's wedding. If you are staying there, I woudl suggest staying at TheHotel at Mandalay Bay. It's SUPER nice! Even nicer than the regular mandalay bay rooms and attached to regular mandalay bay. One thing that we realy liked is that TheHotel is all suites and has no gaming in that part of the hotel- just really classy, but you walk down a hallway on the 1st floor and are right in the middle of the casino if you want to play. They also have a great spa :)

Location, location, location. If this is your first visit to Las Vegas (sounds like it is), you are going to want to see as much of the other hotels as you can. I would stay at the Bellagio, can't beat the location.

I doubt very much you will be spending time at the pool, if it's even open in December, and, besides, Bellagio also has a very nice pool, from what I've read...never stayed there myself!

The distance from the airport really isn't that big a deal. The airport isn't far from any hotel on the south end of the strip.

If sightseeing is what you will be doing, then I definitely would stay at the Belliago.

Good luck and have fun! :)

We did NOT like Mandalay bay and really regretted staying there. The location is awful unless you want to stay in the hotel the whole time - it was a hike to get to any restaurants, shows, or shopping. It's all about location in Vegas IMO - we wanted to be in the middle of it all and MB is way off the end of everything, away from the fun.

The rooms are plain ol hotel rooms. Nothing special, just like a Marriott room. The pool area was neat but too crowded for us to enjoy and LOADS of kids and families. TONS.

We, thankfully, switched to The Paris for our last two nights and THAT was a great hotel. Beautiful themed rooms, great location, more adult atmosphere, great food options, and connected to other hotels.

I don't get the hype over MB.

We have stayed at both and unless there was a BIG difference in price, I would choose Bellagio. Rooms are nicer, hotel and casino are nicer and Bellagio is more centrally located. MB is very nice but the only reason we stayed there the time we did was because we had the kids with us and they have a really nice swimming area. That would also be the only reason we chose it again unless the price was great.
We also stayed at Bellagio when we had the kids with us. They never really did anything to discourage us to have them with us, like trying to steer us to another hotel, but they DO have the signs up that say you must be 18 or a registered guest to be in the casino.
Have a great trip!!

just another note on TheHotel at MB (which btw is the name of the hotel..it's a kind of separate but still the same hotel thing)--> the rooms are VERY different from the ones at regular MB. They are all suites with separate bedroom and living area. There is also a separate parking and registration.

If you are going to Vegas for the first time (and I assume you are), stay at Bellagio. I have stayed at both Mandalay Bay and Bellagio, and while they are both beautiful properties, the location of Bellagio cannot be beat. I think you will enjoy your visit to Vegas alot more, if you are centrally located.

As a matter of fact, I'll be checking into the Bellagio on Labor Day - can't wait!

I received a free upgrade (promotional deal) to a lakeview room once and it was fantastic! When the fountain show comes on, just grab a chair in front of the floor to ceiling windows and turn the TV channel to pick up the soundtrack and enjoy! What a view :yay:
