Las Vegas Las Vegas - cheap? Or, rather - cheaply?

Okay, airfare doesn't count. It's paid (and, unfortunately, I did find an affordable return fare... so I will be coming home as well).
Hotel doesn't count. I will have gift cards.

I'm committed to ten(!) nights because that was the best airfare deal, so right now a rental car is about $250. Gas is covered (again, gift cards) if there's a Shell station anywhere near the south end of the Strip? Otherwise I'm sure I can sell the cards

Now - how can I do the trip inexpensively? I don't gamble nearly enough to expect any comps. I couldn't even get the hot dog a dealer promised me last year! Speaking of which - at this point I'm going alone and staying at the Orleans, so $1.75 hot dogs figure into my dinner plans more than once. So do dollar-tip 'free' drinks while playing nine cents a spin on the slot machines

I'm open to suggestions!

ARe you staying in Vegas for 10 days?

Use the buses to get to the strip and up and down the strip.


Buy liqour at a liqour store and plastic cups mixers, take a cup or two with you when you leave your room.

Well you did not mention if you have been to vegas. New Orleans is on the oppisite side of the freeway from new york new york. You can ride the duece up and down the strip including all the way downtown to freemont st. Cost is 7 dollars for 24 hrs. That would cost you alot less for a week a day than a car. If you call the bus co they could tell how to catch the bus, and take it over the freeway to the strip. I dont recall a shell around there any where.

If you type in free las vegas coupons there are coupons for buy 1 get one free for pizza and hotdogs as well. That would be at new york new york. There is so much to see and do without having to gamble your money away. Taking alot of pics, and shops to look through. People watch. We went that way. I mean not just eating hotdogs but we really did not spend anything but food and some gamble.

If you look on the internet there are all kinds of things to do.
check to see if the hotel has a shuttle to and from the airport. If so this would save you alot from not renting a car. Hope this helps you some. Jo

Hotel does have a shuttle - to the corner of the Strip and Flamingo,,, but with ten days, I really want to do the things I always 'meant' to do, like visit Hoover Dam, and at least drive through Red Rock Canyon... heck, with ten days, I could probably drive to the Grand Canyon!

I have been before, but not with a real budget. I'm serious about the hot dogs at the Orleans for dinner - they're good. Not as a steady diet, but for a couple/few meals? Sure. More food: an immersion heater, some of those Kraft mac & cheese cups, and some foil packets of tuna. Food court with a pizza place with salads. A couple of very strategically-planned restaurant.com certificates.

I actually do need a rental car. I'm sure I can get a better rate as time gets closer, even if it's for less than the full trip. I can spend the first couple of days relaxing at the hotel!

I know I can casino-hop. There are a number of new ones I haven't seen yet. I also know not to bring any/much cash with me when I do - I'm too cheap to pay the outrageous charges to get cash from the machines there.

Maybe if you want to do those things, and you should go to the GC you have enough time to make a long day of it. You should try to bulk them together when the rental rate is the best. Maybe three days in the middle of the trip to break things up.

you can check their website...a nice selection of coupons for a very reasonable price. you can see Mac King at Harrahs for 10 bucks w/ ACG coupon, many deals for shows, attractions, restaurants.
MAny Many coupon books all over the strip.
REstaurant.com has a lot of Vegas offerings...be sure to Google the current promo code (or wait until there is one before buying...they come out constantly)
Sign up for Groupon for daily deals.
savelv.com is my FAV LV deal sight...I just saw free .tickets for a magician in town.

Thanks! I'm on the Goldstar mailing list for Las Vegas (cheap/free shows), and did I tell you all about the time I saw Penn & Teller free? At the time, the blood donation centers were giving a pair of free P&T tickets (well, vouchers) to any blood donor! By the way, NOT a good idea if you don't have a vehicle!!!

Yes, I have the Groupon and Living Social apps, and I signed up for Eversave and another daily deals e-mail notification. Thanks for the American Casino Guide advice. I'm really good (but not always successful ) at pointing out how "two for one" coupons discriminate against solo travelers.
