Large electrical unit side of yard

We live in a neighborhood with no phone, cable, or electrical wires. What that means is that we have a large green box at the side of our yard. Any suggestions on how to make it less noticable through landscaping?

additionally when is the best time to move a small flowering tree? Thanks so much for your suggestions!

The best time to most a flowering tree is during it's dormancy, late fall. Personally, I break the rule all the time and move plants and trees around at my discretion. Just make sure to baby them. Vitamin B helps with the transplant shock.

As to the best plants for a screen for the box; that depends on if you have CC&R's in your area/subdivision. What zone do you live in? That'll make a huge difference in what you want. Also, consider if the roots will inhibit the lines leading to and from the box as the plants mature. Does the box need to have access by a repairman? Just some considerations.

dittos, also might have a look around your neighborhood and see what's growing well around their boxes. We have utility boxes down by the curb set back about 10 feetor more. I planted ornamental grasses, bulbs, bushes and that sort of thing far enough away from it so that they could gain access and yet block the view. The grass can be cut down if they really have to get in to do work on it.

Take note of the advice to avoid buried lines. I moved into a home with underground lines, and the previous owner planted junipers over the lines and around the boxes. Now I have to remove all the junipers to allow work to be done...and I don't know how well you know junipers, but when they're 25 years old, they do NOT want to move! Stick with perennials and grasses.
