My daughter will be flying with her laptop. What will she have to do when going through security? She will be bringing it on the plane with her.

Thanks in advance.
Michelle

She will be fine...
We had ours a couple of weeks ago and all they expect is for you to take it out of it's case and place it in one of those plastic bins...
I just make sure it was easy to get to so it wasn't a hassle.

Hope she has a great trip! :flower:

Make sure she puts her name and address on the laptop. Also make the laptop the last thing to go through the screener so you are waiting on the other side for it to come out. Wait until you see it go into the screener before you step through.

can laptops be used on planes?

Yes, so long as they are not trying to use wireless connectivity. Also not during takeoff and landing - listen for the announcements for when it is okay to unpack and store your laptop.

Also you may not store your laptop in the seat back cushion.

safetymom gave some great advice about security. Make sure the laptop is the last thing that goes through and you wait until it starts to go through the xray machine.. so many laptops are taken when people are not watching what's happening. It's sad to say but that's the world we live in now.

I have taken my laptop on every trip and have never had a problem but I am careful...

If the person in front of you fully reclines their seat, it can be hard to use the laptop, depending on the room between the rows.

Also amazing how many people forget to take them back off the belt!!!

And for anyone travelling internationally, while TSA doesn't (or rarely unless it's a secondary inspection) wipe your screen/keyboard, they still may do so internationally. Mine is wiped almost every trip.

Make sure that the laptop battery works, and it fully charged. It could save you time at security. While they don't typically ask folks to turn on their laptops, they sometimes do.

Actually, you can use it with a wireless connection (if you can pick one up) before they shut the door. I was DIS'ing on a plane while waiting for it to load once about four months ago LOL!

And I've never heard a restriction of storing it in a seat back pocket (I think that's what you meant), although mine won't fit in the average coach pocket.

Must be a United thing, part of their onboard speech... believe me, I have them memorized!!! Can't speak for other airlines though as I am always on United....

And yes, Anne is correct, you can use it before takeoff, but PLEASE follow instructions and put it away when it's time. (that and your cel phone).

I've heard the same thing on American and American Eagle, no laptops in the seat back pocket on takeoff and landing. I've only first started hearing this in the past couple of months. In fact American Eagle says nothing can be in the seat back pocket on takeoff and landing (except of course, their safety information and the little bags for Easter egg hunts).
