Laptop vs Notebook - What do I need??

Not all laptops have CD/DVD drives anymore, either. Not even all desktops do. That was something we specifically wanted on the desktop we bought a couple years ago, and the salesperson told us they aren't as common anymore. My last 2 laptops for work have not had a CD drive, so that’s going back 5-6 years.

Hmmm, good to know, I guess because I work for a computer consulting firm and my honey has his own consulting business all I've ever seen that we buy for ourselves at the office and for our clients have them I assumed they all did. We tend to buy mostly Lenovo products for ourselves and clients, in both laptops and desktops and they always have them but I guess that is just what the boss and techs tell me to price out.

Exactly. My son just built a custom PC and the case he chose doesn't even accommodate a DVD/CD-Rom drive. They simply aren't necessary anymore with downloadable software and thumb drives. If you really need a drive, you can buy an inexpensive external with USB hookup. Ours was $20.

This is what I did. I have a thin Samsung laptop that does not have a DVD drive so I just bought an inexpensive Samsung BluRay/DVD+RW drive. I still need it because I make DVDs of all of our home movies for physical backup, plus I transferred our entire DVD movie library to digital format for a Plex server. They are cheap enough that it's not really a deal breaker if the laptop doesn't have one (for me personally).
