Laptop Suggestions

I'm going to buy a new laptop, hopfully tomorrow. Any suggestions on what kind to get.

I don't need one with a lot of memory space or anything. Just a basic one, that doesn't cost a fortune, that I only really need for e-mail, Facebook, and the DIS.

I'll also watch videos online, but if there's a big cost difference between one with a good video card, I'd rather just wait for the DVD's of the shows I like.

Windows 7 will be released on Oct. 22nd - I would wait until after that, and get one with W7 instead of Vista installed.

If you don't need a DVD drive, get a netbook, they are between 200 and 600, but you can get a good one for about 300. Acer Aspire is a great one. Fast, easy to use and many of them have windows XP. Easy to carry around, built in wirelss card, really does it all except Windows Office applications, unless you buy a dowload.

I bought a Dell Inspiron 1525 in Sept. '08 for $650 (this includes shipping, three years of McAfee, and Microsoft Office so you can get them even cheaper if you opt out of these options) from Dell's website (which I love cause you can build it with exactly what you want [LOTS of choices] and you can even pick between lots of colors for free). I don't do much on my laptop other than DIS, ChaCha, and search the Internet. I love mine and have had zero problems.

I also have a Dell Inspiron 1525. I'm really happy with it. I don't rememer how much it was, but it was reasonable, and as PP said, you can get exactly what you want.

I have a DELL Latitude D820 bought for me for work at home. I had a three year warranty on it and a good thing. They replaced 3 cords, that wore loss in the socket. The the USB's would not work, a hinge on the monitor part cracked.

The mother board was replaced twice, not counting the time they came and a piece of felt stuck in the fan during instillation and over heated. Then a week later the hard drive had the blue screen of death, I had lost everything. Sent a new hard drive, instillation disk.

I got it going again, and then a virus screwed it up bigtime although I have software protection and super careful.
Then the pointer mouse went screwy, they had me disable instead of fixing it.

It gets way too hot, and the cord is falling out again.....
THe HP desktop I bought the time frame, has had no problems. From 2006 until now. That thing is on 24/7 with 3 steady users. A ton of gaming, watch movies, burn CD's and Internet on all day.

I am ready to upgrade the laptop and it will be a HP not a DELL for me.
Oh, my DELL desk top, my second computer I wanted a DELL so bad, had three hard drives, one mother board, powersupply...I pulled the cord and packed it up.

SAMS Club has a great extended warrenty poliy price. Although they sub out to repair in your area by the company that has it. Depends on how good they are . DS had a part they overnighted, the repair guy installed it and it was the wrong one. He had to wait anther ovenighter to get the correct part and tray it would screw into.(repair guy tried to force worng one.) The son packed it up and sent to service and got back ASAP and working well.
