So, Best Buy has my laptop and is not giving it back. I sent it to get fixed and since it is the third time it has needed repairs, they are giving me a new one. However, I don't even get to see the old one again (and I accidentally left a rental DVD in it!)

That means in two days I am going to Best Buy to pick out a new laptop. I'm leaning toward the HP Pavilion as it got the best reviews from Consumer Reports. I point blank refuse to get a Dell or a Compaq as I had so many issues with their computers and the companies themselves. The last computer was a Toshiba, and while I liked it I am not married to the idea of another one.

So, what would you recommend?

I have an HP laptop, and I like it a lot. I've had for about a year and a half, so it's still pretty new. It runs nice and fast, I've never needed to call customer service for anything major (had to call when my power adaptor broke, but they replaced it for free).

Good to knwo it seems to be reliable. Sadly, I have what I like to call "anti-technology vibe". Computers crash and burn around me all the time. I can literally call my parents on the phone and their computer will freeze. It's knows I'm there. It does not happen unless I'm home or on the phone again. I'm even rubbing off on my boyfriend's computer which he built himself and has never had a problem. :rotfl: Let's just say that for me an extended warranty is a must.

I have an HP Pavilion and cannot stand the thing. I cannot tell you how many times I have wanted to throw it out the window. We have had it for less than a year.
I am getting a Apple in the next month or two:cool1:

Will never own a Windows machine again...

One day I will own one... Sigh..

But until then, I've heard great things about Sony Vaios. I've got a couple friends with them and they love them! I've also heard wonderful things about the HP you're mentioning. Good luck!

I've had a Compaq laptop and was disappointed...the hardware issues were constant with it.

We now own 4 Sony Vaios--we've had the oldes two for three years and just love them. Good, stable machines.

I will say that Apple is point blank not an option for me. So other than Macbook pro, what are your suggestions? ;)

My wife has an HP, and I have a Dell. Let's just say that my wife says her next laptop is going to be a Dell. Check out the new XPS line, if you're into any serious computing; otherwise the Dell Inspiron is a great choice.

Good to know. HP is out. I will not do Dell. They lost my computer when I sent it in for service and point blank lied to me about it multiple times. I sent in in January and was told two weeks. I didn't get it back until March... UNFIXED! I kept calling them and getting the run around. At one point they sent me a power chord and closed the case, but they still had the computer itself! At another point I talked to a guy who said he was looking right at it and that a part had been on back order and had just come in and they would send it out the next day. This was a full month before I finally got it back.

I finally had to buy a new computer because I didn't know when or if I would get my computer back. I was a graduate student and needed it. Thank God whenever my computer goes into the shop my parents loan me their laptop. Dell did eventually send us a refurbished laptop, so now we have an extra computer, which has been living with me off and on this school year since my Toshiba has been spending so much time being fixed.

I suppose you would want to steer clear of Acer, Gateway, eMachine, Sony, Toshiba and Compaq. They all many complaints as well.
