laptop question

Hi guys. I have a question for all of you computer people out there please. My sister just bought a new laptop. She does not have wireless connection, so is going to have to use a CAT5e ethernet cable to connect the laptop to the router.

What I need to know is if there is something special you need to do with the laptop internet connection set-up. I have always used wireless with my laptops, so I am unfamiliar with connecting with a cable.

she won't need anything special but is there a reason she doesn't set up a wireless network? Cheap wireless routers are ~ $30.

Thanks. I believe she has the wireless router actually I think right now it is just the monthly charge from the provider that is keeping her from the wireless.

There should be no monthly charge when using your own wireless router.

She should have a cable or DSL modem. She would then connect her wireless router to the modem. The ISP doesn't even need to know that she has a wireless router attached to her modem.

I am sorry. She had the modem, not the router. She just bought the router today. I guess we will be hooking everything up tomorrow and get her started.
