Laptop Question

Do most people take a laptop in a wheeled case or just case with handles for the airplane? Would there be enough room to place case with wheels under the seat in front of you?

Depends on who they are and why they are travelling. Case in point....

- most of my colleagues use wheeled cases as we travel 90% of our work and our laptop cases are our 'office'
- I DON'T use a wheeled case as I do a lot of international travel, where carry on rules are stricted. I have a German laptop case which can expand enough to allow me to carry some clothes as well as my 'office' but is still small enough to fit European rules
- sometimes if going on vacation I don't use a laptop case - I use a neoprene sleeve to protect my laptop and put it inside a messenger bag
- others use a standard 21 inch carryon and put the laptop inside, in a sleeve, to protect it (my grandparents do this when the travel - yes, at over age 90 they bring theirs along)

I like my case best as I can't carry things on my shoulder for more than a few minutes, and the case fits on top of a roller suitcase. Otherwise I carry it by the handles (which are longer than most I found in the US)

It took me about a year to find the 'right' case when I went shopping for one last; but I had some very specific requirements due to the amount and type of travel.

I am a shoulder bag kinda gal and this one is super. Just do a search for:

Patagonia Lightwire Tote

About the size of a medium sized daypack, my Lightwire has a zippered, separate, padded section for a laptop and it holds my oversized laptop easily. There are many zippered and separate pockets plus compartments for every imaginable item. The strap is slotted and padded to go over a rolling piece of luggage with a handle. I use this as my carry-on bag when traveling and either put it in the overhead compartment or slide it under the seat in front of me. I got mine at a local quality outdoor goods store. Patagonia is a top name in outdoor gear and this is the very best small travel bag I have ever owned! Somewhat pricey ($90 and less) but it will last for years and years!

Description from Patagonia site:
This tote offers a trapdoor desk pocket and getaway capacity in a single-strap (3-D spacer-mesh) courier model with laptop sleeve. The gusseted main compartment features an interior divider with two zippered, see-through flat pockets for organizing small items. A prismatic reflective liner permits easy searching. There are two side stretch-mesh pockets and a back pocket: for water bottles, a light shell or quick access to periodicals.
