i have a weird sound - when I went to turn it on - It was a horrendous sound - I guess like an extreme fan blowing - but once it was completely powered up it hasn't made a sound since. What do ya think the problem is?

If I were you, I would take it to a repair shop and not turn it on until inspected. I once saw the inside of my deskptop computer. I noticed that the graphics card had a mini fan on it. It could possibly be a graphics card issue or the fan that prevents the device from over heating.

could be any number of things-none of them good-fans failed somewhere is the most likely-you'll know pretty quickly because something inside will melt-or worse case it will catch fire. Also could be your hard drive gettiing ready to go to heaven-got your stuff backed up? Power supply could be dying-this will be sefl evident pretty quickly-as soon as your battery gets used up. I would definately get it checked out sooner rather than later.

Ahh thanks! EEK! Gotta get it backed up - there's not tons on there though (thank goodness it won't take long)

Its just so strange - I haven't heard it again quite like that - but now when I pick it up it's like something rattles... :confused3

Granted I have a desktop, but when mine starts making noises, I turn it off and look inside. Usually I have a fan caked in dust. I vacuum it and turn it back on, usually with the side off to watch it all start up. Usually that is the culprit.

For about a week everyone kept telling me my laptop was making a funny noise-I couldn't hear it because of my hearing loss. Finally DH said it was getting worse so I picked up the laptop to start checking it out and low and behold there was a piece of plastic (gum package wrapper) stuck on the bottom and flapping around when the fan was on. At least it was a cheep fix. :lmao:
