can you tell me what I need to do? Its a new laptop rented DVDs to play & the screen pops up & says Incorrect Region & then ejects the DVD.

Do I need to add a program for playing DVD 'cause I didn't - just fiugred there was something built in...

A disc and player have to match their region code (unless either is region 0). If you have a player that is region 1 (North America) and try to play a disk that is region 2 (Europe), it will not work. This article may offer a solution.

K - I'll go read up on it .....thanks

the movies I had were 2 from RedBox rentals (Dora & Nat' geo) & tried 1 from here - Because of Winn Dixie....

going to read now

This happened with my new laptop too, the first time I put a DVD in. You need to set the region and it shouldn't happen again. It was last year so I'm a little fuzzy, but you should be able to set the region through your DVD playing software. Good luck! I know, it's a pain. I don't remember ever having to do it with past computers.:confused3

Ok - dumb question- but how does the player know what region Im in? Do I need to check & make sure it is correct?

I can't believe people have to go thru all this to watch a DVD CRAZY!

OK, freaky (and likely not related) coincidence....I had the exact same problem when trying to play 'Because of Wynn Dixie' on my work laptop for my son when we had a long car ride. I could not figure it out and gave up. I know....completely not helpful post...but weird coincidence on the movie!

Start by trying another DvD. If that DvD runs, then the issue is with the orignal DvD. Either it was burned illegally, or bought from outside the states.

If you can not run any DvD's, then you might need to update your dvd software.

Try another DvD and report back so we can help you with the next step if you can't run any DvDs

trying live chat at the moment - its taking FOREVER - ACK hopefully he'll come up with an answer soon!

ACK! the guy wants to change the region! WHAT!?!?!?:confused3 okay I've wasted 20 mins on there now & nothing....

I can't believe noone else has this problem & they don't have an answer on the website or easily told when I contact them - UGH!

It could be a firmware issue. Have you checked the manufacturer of your laptop to see if there is updated firmware for your DVD player?

for the US the region code should be 1,

the pc will allow you to change to other codes, but beware, you are usually only allowed to change 5 times and then the dvd player will lock up and not play any dvds

if you look at the disks, they might have a small number near the bottom, telling you what region they are, I just bought some movies off ebay , received them Tuesday and had the same issue , it turns out that no dvds had been played yet on the desktop I was using so I had to go into control panel, device manager, right click the dvd drive, then click on regions and set it to 1...the movies then played..

:confused3well that was a COMPLETE waste of time - they have no solution - want me to reinstall the drivers - WHY? there shouldn't be a problem if its a brand new computer....I bought in in JUly!

I so don't get this - and why I'm the only one!

Did you notice my reply to you a little while ago? I had the same problem. Did you try what I suggested?

what brand laptop is it...???

I bought a laptop for the purpose of uploading and viewing photos at photo shoots, only to discover that the usb ports don't work, because the manufacturer, used a chipset that isn't compatable with vista..

mickey - that was it - 1 hour later to the minute - its was the driver that had to be set - even though it said it was set to us in control panel the driver wasn't set at all

THANKS SO MUCH!

Once again DIS would have been quicker than the support line! Why did I ever doubt the DIs? :thumbsup2

It is common for newer versions of drivers to be available even at ship time. Whenever I get a new computer at work or home the first thing I do is wipe it completely and reinstall the OS, latest drivers and firmware, and software that I would like. This is the best way to get the latest drivers. I will also re-flash the BIOS is a newer release is available.

This not only gets you the latest software but also gets rid of all the bloat-ware most manufacturers include.
