Lap dogs

And,no I do not mean Jerry Monaco's son, I really mean lap dogs. Anyone recommend a really cute one? We have 2 kids (4 and 5) and already have 2 dogs (a boxer and a black lab) and 2 cats. The other pets do not stay upstairs in the house, they use the basement, with plenty of comfort and a doggie door to come and go as they please. We would like to get a little dog to stay upstairs with us. No hairless ones, they scare me. But not one that sheds too much either. We know someone with a King Charles spaniel---real cute!!! And supposed to be excellent, but then today I saw a picture of a Chacey Ranior---adorable--but pretty expensive. Any ideas, recommendations? Must be cute, child friendly, good temperment, can be trained easily, and not get bigger than 12-15 lbs max. Thanks!!

We have a black and white Shih-Tzu, who rules the roost. Definitely a lap dog, an in your face dog at that. He makes every step I make, howls if he's left in a room alone . 10.5 pounds, surprisingly the hair doesn't shed much, but does need brushing. Very people oriented. Thinks every kid at the schools has to say hello to him!
