My dh has alot of weight to lose. He is very interested in having the Lap-band surgery. Out of the 3 weight loss surgeries, this one seems to be the one with less complications as they don't move/cut anything, they just put a band on part of your stomach, making it smaller, thus, eating less. Anyway, tomorrow morning he has as appointment to attend a seminar (the seminar is a must before even speaking with the dr. It gives you all information vital to all the weight loss surgery procedures). Its a 3 hour seminar and I'm going with him, but, I was wondering if any one here had this particular procedure done. Can anyone give me any info/thoughts/experiences with it. I'm sure he would be a candidate for the gastric bypass, but, to tell you the truth, I'm too afraid for him to have that one as it is major, major, surgery, with alot of risks involved. I'm nervous about the lap band procedure also, but, from what I read on the website it shouldn't be so risky. Any info would be appreciated.

I nkow a few folk who did lap band. I am not sure where you are going but do soem program research.

I did, I checked mortality rates, surgical experience and program support. I did gastric bypas 10 days ago - so far no trouble. I am am up eating, only what is on my transition diet and not hungry at all. The program I went to recommends lapband for anyone with small children just for the reason you mentioned.

Feel free to email me - msp4911@aol.com. I know it is a very scary decision.

I was just doing a quick search and found your post :flower: I had lap band surgery 1/9/04 and couldn't be more happier with my descision  As of today I'm down 103lbs :Pinkbounc I follow The Weight Watchers Program...doing points NOT Core. I went from a size 28W to a size 16 :cheer2: The thing to remember with this surgery is that you need periodic fills and you have to exercise :cheer2: I think it's the BEST thing I did for myself!!!

Brittwomen, I'm glad everything is going great for you. So far its getting closer for my dh to get a surgery date. First he has a few more tests to have done and the phyc. test. I see your in NY, Can I ask where you had your surgery done? My dh is going to Columbia Presb. Hospital in NYC. TIA...

I had my surgery in the hospital that I work at...Good Samaritan in West Islip, Long Island :flower:

I'm bumping this thread because I have recently become interested in this surgery too.

I am 26, 5'9" and weigh about 280. Although I have been able to lose weight here and there, it usually comes back more than I lost (typical). My father is blind and about to need to go on dialisys (At 55) due to complications with Diabetes. My brother is younger than me and also Type II. He lost over 100 lbs (he is not sure how, he just kind of stopped eating for a while) and no matter what I do, join a gym, buy a bowflex, rollerblades, whatever, I can't manage to get lower than 275 or so. I sabotage myself. But I don't have diabetes now, and I don't want to get it. It's sad, I'm getting married on Saturday, and we're hoping my dad will be able to make it through the day. I have a younger sister who is nowhere near getting married, and I can't help thinking that if/when she does, as her big brother it might be me walking her down the aisle, not dad. I don't want to put that burden on my future kids... so I want to do it now, and enjoy what's left of my youth!

Has anyone here done it in New Jersey?

I have been looking at one doctor in New Brunswick and was wondering if any of my friends here at Dis used him, or another one :-)

I also have Aetna insurance, anyone know how they deal with these things?
