We are in the castaway club so I know we will get them, but this will be my son-in-laws first cruise. My question is…since my daughter is a castaway club member and he is obviously staying in the same room with her, does he get a lanyard? Or do I need to bring one of lanyards from our last years cruise so he will have one?

In my experience, they only give them to the CC members and not to everyone in the stateroom. So bring one from your last cruise for your SIL.

Exactly. We just cruised with our adult son and daughter who were sharing a cabin. Daughter has cruised before and was given a lanyard. This was the Son's first cruise and he did not get a lanyard.

Could someone explain to me why a lanyard is needed? What's hanging off of it? A Disney character?

I always felt that everyone should be given lanyard especially for the amount of the cruise, but i know that has been discussed on these boards on more than one occasion. I like the lanyards because our cards are always visible. even if i do not have it around my neck, it easily visible in my beach bag or just carried on my hand. When i went on cruise in December with two friends, i brought them each an old lanyard as i had nothing to do with them anyway!

Does anyone know if concierge gets a lanyard? This will be our first cruise and we are sailing concierge.

We did not get one when we checked in. My husband, however, did get one when he went to the lounge and asked them if they had a pouch to put his keycard in. They gave him the silver Castaway lanyard.

I would just plan on bringing your own. Have some fun with it. :)

Thanks for the reply. We are a family of 5 and have 3 lanyards for pin trading so I guess we just need to get the pouch.

You can buy them ahead of time on Amazon if you want. They also sell some that have a zipper closure in one of the stores on board. I used something like this one my last cruise.

The pouch was big enough to hold my cellphone (Samsung S6), keycard, and ID.

Concierge does not get them on their first cruise. We went concierge this past December for our wedding and it was our first cruise and we did not receive a lanyard. We went back in January for our honeymoon as a regular passenger and received one then.

Last cruise I had to argue with the CM as she didn't want to give my mom one. The last cruise was her fourth cruise she is one cruise behind me. Not sure what was up with that but she finally gave my mom her lanyard.

A lanyard is not needed but some people like to keep their kttw card in there. If you are wearing pants with a back pocket it's just easier to keep it in your pants IMO.

I think it depends on who is checking you in at the port because my sister-in-law's whole family came with us one year and it was their first cruise. So, we asked them if it was possible to give us extra lanyards and they gave us 3 extra ones.
