hOW MUCH TRADING ACTUALLY GOES ON WITH THESE PINS. i HAVE BOUGHT A FEW TO TAKE WITH US OFF EBAY AND HOPE I'M NOT STARTING ANYTHING THAT MIGHT LEAD TO PROBLEMS.

It depends on the child. My DS (who was 5 last year) did this and loved it. The child does need to be somewhat outgoing though and not really afraid of strangers. We did stress to my DS that he could only trade with the people that were in uniform with a nametag. We also stressed that he couldn't do this without Daddy or Mama right there.

We had brought a few pins with us and he was on the lookout for CMs after the first day. Nothing but positive experiences with the CMs. They even took the time to point out which pins were more valuable.

However, we did buy some pins while we were there that we couldn't trade for. These start at $6.50 and go up.

This year both of my DSs (my oldest will be 7 and my youngest is 2) will be trading pins. I have 22 of them for each of them. I got most of them when the Disney Stores were getting rid of inventory. If you can get a great deal on the pins, it is a cheap souvenir and the kids will love getting to pick out what they want.

My daughter (8) started collecting pins this trip.

We bought the lanyard with 4 pins, 2 to keep, with duplicates to trade. I thought it was a good start.

Then i bought a hat, with 6 pins, at AK. I wanted the hat, and we struck a deal, for the pins. I gave her a deal. 6 pins for $12.00.

It was a lot of fun for her. I had to bite my tongue more than a couple of times, though. She would trade, sometimes just for the sake of trading. Gave up some pins that she later regretted. I just finally realized that she would trade for the ones she liked, but not so much for the value.



The cast members will trade, and you can also trade from the books at the pin carts.

Most of the pins, are 6.50, as turnlisa said. Some are more, and you can customize some, which can be alot. We did a couple of these, and we made sure she knew, not to trade.

I wish I had thought that she would get into it. I would have tried to be prepared, with some pins to trade, that didn't cost alot. I didn't even realize that the Disney store carried them.

My daughter had her spending $$, and used quite a bit of it towards pins. We came home with 25 of them. But it was worth it---It is her favorite thing from the trip.

My dd (6) had the same experience with pin trading. I bought 10 off of ebay and brought them with us for her to trade. She had fun trading the pins with the cms. For a couple of days she traded with every cm she saw. They were all very nice and patient with her. We also ended up buying a few pins.

I haven't seen any there in a few months. Another place that I got some great deals was at cheappins.com You might want to try this. Some of their pins are as cheap as a little over a dollar. Any cloisonne pin can be traded as long as it has a Disney logo. Further rules on this are available on that site as well. Good luck!

went there and got 10 pins for under $30 including shipping. Great place to get cheap pins for trading. Thanks for the suggestion.

I personally have not gotten into the pin trading.. I just collect the Tinkerbell ones.. I do know that there are different colored lanyards and that they are for the different ages... I would ask a CM more about that. But I did talk with a little girl at one of the parades and she said that some of the CM would trade with her, but also maybe just give her one. She said that that had happend about 3 times..


But I do encourage parents to let their kids know the value of a pin.. I saw some that were as much as $15 and kids were trading them for a pin that was only $6.50..

At DTD there is a huge pin shop and even some traders that ar not CM sit out side and you can trade with them.

My ds(7) has become an avid pin trader. He is somewhat shy and this helped him overcome that. We only trade with cast members. We also purchased a large number of pins from the disney store for trading. He has made some not very good trades...so what I've done is we have a binder with our "keepers" in it and at the end of the day we add to it. Every day the lanyard he wears is pins that we both agree are traders. That way when he makes his trade I do not intervene and he feels like a "big boy".

We also carry an extra lanyard with 4 pins to give away to a child who we see as interested and just getting started. I have alot of extra lanyards from when the disney store was clearing out and we purchased over a 100 pins at .88 ea (CDN funds as well) which is a sweet deal.

We just did the pin thing for the first time this trip. It was a lot of fun. I got some from cheappins.com and also got some from the Disney Store in Toronto when we visited there last summer. Mostly my 6 year old DD got into it. My 3 year old DS wasn't too interested yet. She got some really cute princess pins. We only traded with CM's.

There was one trade that upset me and it was all DH's fault I had gotten her a Mickey New York pin from cheappins.com and she traded it for a Dalmation pin while I was outside a gift shop with the baby. I guess I never stressed to either of them that it was a non-tradable pin but I was feeling really sad that she traded it. DH took one look at my face and grabbed DS's lanyard and traded right back for it. He said the CM looked disappointed but understood that the mother was not too happy about the trade.

cheappins.com has the cheapest and I bought some of the cheapest ones. The most expensive I purchased was 2.55. Who cares if they are cheap, they can trade the ones they don't like. That was my theory. I did get some I thought they would keep too, but that was just a bonus. Several pins there are more expensive. The fun of the whole thing is trading, so I went with the cheapest.

how did you find the really cheap pins on www.cheappins.com ?

I didn't see a search by price button and the only way to find the price of an individual pin was by clicking on it.

Go to the middle section of the page for Cheappins. Click on Disney and go through them page by page. I know there are like 30 pages, but it is worth looking at them all and fun to do so.
