Lanyard to hold tickets?

Will be visiting DLR for the first time next week. On our last visit to Disneyworld several years ago, we found it handy to wear a lanyard with a plastic pouch attached to hold all our tickets (stored on plastic cards back then) for easy retrieval when getting fastpasses etc. I'm not sure what the ticket format is right now at DLR - I have purchased tickets and only have a printout with a bar code that I understand will be exchanged for tickets when we first use them. Is it useful to bring a lanyard + plastic pouch to hold our tickets at DLR?

I think so. For our last 2 family vacations we used lanyards like this. Each person kept their room key and their ticket in their lanyard with the barcode of the ticket facing the clear side to scan for entry into the park and to scan at the start of the lines for rides. We used MaxPass to book all fast passes so we didn't have to take the tickets in and out. It was great for our kids (as young as 7) to be able to quickly keep the lines moving and feel responsible.

ETA: We also stayed on property so didn't need to take much else into the park which made it really fast and easy to go through security.

Don't use the ones that they sell at DL. I did that once and the plastic pouch thing fell off of the lanyard and I didn't even notice it. Almost lost all of our tickets if it hadn't been for 1 of my kids noticing it laying on the ground

I found nice ones at Hot Topic with fun designs (stitch, toy story, rose gold minnie) for around $10. I always use a lanyard because I prefer using our tickets to scan our FP to save battery life on my phone.

Witz makes nice hard plastic cases, I’ve used them in the parks for many years.

I am going this route for our next trip because I think it really would be handy. I got one off ebay for pretty cheap (it's a Funko one featuring Kylo Ren) and the DLR tickets will fit fine.

They are for sale at all the surrounding drug stores. We have picked up a few at CVS over the years and they are perfect!

I always wear a lanyard, mostly because I think having the paper ticket hanging from around my neck is much easier to grab and swipe, for instance, the FP scanner. I don't like having my phone in my hand 100% of the time, though I'm happy to have it open for getting FPs and using mobile order, looking at wait times. I also like to use the lanyard to get souvenir paper FPs.

I always wear one... I have several from my past trips and I'll probably just use one of those again. I suppose you really don't need it now with the app, but I still enjoy using one. :)

When you go to the park on your first day you can go right to the turnstiles and present your printout with the bar code. If it's a multi day ticket they will then take your picture and give you a paper ticket to use the other days and for FP's.

If you plan on using Maxpass you can scan the bar code's for everyone in your party into the Disneyland App before you get to the park. Like above when you get to the park the first time you can scan your phone, they will take you pic, and they will give you the paper tickets. After that you can store your tickets for safe keeping an you can then use your phone to make MaxPass FP's and use it to scan in to each FP instead of fumbling with tickets each time and risk dropping them.

Now that all FastPasses -- whether made at a machine or MaxPass on your phone -- have to have a barcode redeemed via ticket or phone app, having a lanyard makes it soooo much easier. I vastly prefer each (responsible) person use their FP individually at the machine by holding the ticket under the scanner. It seems the people wanting to do everyone's on one phone get held up with getting the app to open correctly and then swiping through each FP. Sometimes you get a group using 1 phone clustered around 1 scanner and blocking access to a second scanner.

We bought a pack of 5 different colored soft lanyards with pouches on Amazon and have used them on a Universal Florida trip and several Disneyland trips.

Good idea to take a pic of your ticket when you arrive.
Such an easy safety measure that can save time and headache if anything happens to your ticket/s. Make sure the photo/s have a clear image of the bar code and numbers.

We've started using badge reels (Disney themed -- different characters for different Disney Bounds!) -- very easy to find our passes when needed and to scan at the machines or at cash registers.

I have been doing this for years, but instead of a lanyard I clip the plastic pouch to a retractable key chain like the CM's use or you would use at work.

I clip the key chain to my belt or my bag and that way its easy to access without having to get my wallet out all the time.

Also , depending on the size of the plastic pouch you use, it will fit into the Fastpass Scanner. This year I got the rose gold Minnie lanyard in Hot Topic , took off the neck strap and attached the pouch to my retractable key chain. I kept my ticket with the bar code facing out. This fits perfectly into the Fastpass Scanner. No faffing about trying to get the ticket on my phone, or digging through my wallet, just scan and go , and walk past the people holding up the flow at Fastpass Scanner.

I guess I'm in the minority! We used lanyards for years and stopped since having maxpass. I'm always in my phone, checking wait times or return times for the next ride, so I just pull it up as we approach and swipe through all 4. My kids never did the lanyards (and wouldn't want to deal with the sensory experience), so I always had to take multiple APs out of my lanyard. The phone is much faster for us (as long as my family stays off to the side while I swipe!). But if DLR got magic bands, I'd be all over that!

About how big does the plastic holder part have to be to hold tickets? Not sure on the dimensions needed if you had a lanyard.

the paper tickets are the same size as a regular bank card / credit card. The plastic pouch needs to be a size to fit a bank card., no wider than a phone.

This is the Hot Topic Rose Gold Minnie Mouse Lanyard I have, which I put onto the retractable key chain. I put my ticket with the bar code facing out and I was able to put it into the Fastpass scanners.

Big enough to hold a driver's license or a credit card. Like the plastic holders that come with a badge reel -- approx. 3.5" x 2.25". The Witz wallets (https://www.amazon.com/WITZ-Clear-Waterproof-Sports-Purple/dp/B0002SYHWM/ref=sr_1_14?crid=3GO3OJUXPKOAO&dchild=1&keywords=witz+waterproof+case&qid=1570358745&sprefix=witz,aps,196&sr=8-14) are a little bigger and can hold a few more items, e.g. tickets, cash, credit card, lip balm, etc..
