How do most of you carry your room key for easy access to FOTL? I have 2 kids ages 9 & 11 and I have read abouut lanyards and fanny packs. Not sure whickh is best-would love some ideas. Going in March so it'll be here before we know it. Thanks

I will use the fanny pack as its got a zip compartment to keep them safe:jester:

If I keep them in a fanny pack, I put them in a little plastic baggy in the the front zipper compartment. I have also kept them around my neck. It's a matter of personal preference. Now that they sometimes scan them, you have to take them out anyway. When they just looked at them, the lanyard was more convenient.

lanyard and fanny pack. but i prefer the lanyard.:D

:rotfl:.....here we go again! I keep my room key in the front zip compartment of my travel bag. :D

I'm usually a fanny pack user. However, it felt so much lighter, without this trip. We got the lanyards. However, let me suggest, putting paper, around your key(if you are staying on property). We had a hard time, getting the keys out, because they stuck to the plastic. Just make sure too, if you are riding on the upside down roller coasters, to tuck them into your shirt, so they don't fly off. One bad thing about fanny pack, is you have to go through copy more seconds at the front gate, to let security look in.

I always kept them in my fanny pack until we got the lanyard with the clear card compartment I bought at Universal. Very convenient and safe.

i prefer the lanyard because its a tad more stylish than a fanny pack...but when we went to disney orlando...i had my room key(which double functioned as a credit card because we were staying on grounds) and my whole clear protector fell off...room key and ticket. we had to spend 20 minutes of an Enight searching and backtracking and cancelling and all kinds of commotion.....so, my advice is a lanyard....but please remind your kids to be responsible (because im the dumbo kid that lost mine! );)

You probably got one of those cheap WDW lanyards. I was styling last week in my '03 orange HHN lanyard with heavy duty plastic with a red closure line. The only problem is the cards would sweat and stick to the inside and when they asked to scan them somethings you really have to tug. When I am King they will only have to look at them through the plastic.
I think fanny packs are history for us unless DW comes along.

if we get lanyards, do the room keys already have a hole in them to slide the lanyard through?Where at home can we get a decent lanyard- Wal Mart or a outdoors store. Thanks

The lanyard is a fabric necklace with a clip on the end that goes through a small hole/slot in a clear plastic pocket that is large enough for a credit card sized card. I think originally they were for employee identification cards. The room keys don't have holes or slots in them. Careful at Walmart because my DW thought she found the perfect thing for me and DD. It was a small zipped purse with eyelet holes and a plastic see through pocket that even had a belt loop on the back. This literally did not last 10 minutes. We both ended up throwing them away. Go back to Ebay and search 'lanyard' and look at the possibilities (most are WDW).

At the Fossil store at City Walk they sell Leather hodlers. I originally bought mine for my work ID that I have to wear at all times, but I will take it this weekend for the Room Key at Universal!!! Mine has a pen attached to the side of it, but they had them without a pen as well.

I have the lanyard, from a totally different vacation, but don't have the plastice holder part because those keycards were plastic themselves.
Any suggestions for attaching the HRH ones to the lanyard?

I was thrilled. I was at a Family Dollar store and they had character lanyards (the kind with the clip)...We bought 1 Spiderman, 1 Hulk and 1 Scooby Doo one. They were only $1.00 each.

When we checked in, I asked if they could punch a hole in the corner. Must be a common request as she had the puncher right there.

This worked out great for us. As a matter of fact, my son(5) and I wore ours on the lanyard and my husband decided that wasn't too cool and carried his in either his wallet or fanny pack and it always ended up with my son and I waiting for him to get his in and out...although not long waits, we waited. The next 2 days, his FOTL key was on the lanyard....(I guess he decided it was cool).

KLAIT -

That is a great idea! Thanks for mentioning it! I know we have spare lanyards at home. I was thinking my work one would work well, but I like the idea of punching the whole better!

Thanks again,
Kelly
