Going to dig down a few inches, lay some matting and fill with rocks different sections of our yard (to break up the look and get rid of some of the flowers/bushes).
I think darker... even darker than your brick if you can. I think I would like the contrast to the other stone and dark will help the color of the plants "pop".
just be careful when you dig not to create, for lack of a better word a bowl. Last thing you want is giving the water an area to just sit against your foundation
I would definitely do darker too. But I am a black mulch loving person so take that into account. I like the sharp contrast of black to the green grass and foliage.
I’m in the process of shopping for landscape rock and pavers myself. Personally I don’t think I would match the rocks with the pavers cause I like the way the white pavers stand out. I think white trim or in your case pavers kind of pop.

Speaking of which, how about black mulch? I got some black rubber mulch from Lowe's last year. It was expensive, but I figure the color wouldn't fade like a "normal" mulch.

Ha, I did look into that! But wowsa it is an investment. But could pay off.
After having a rich dark black mulch get faded ridiculously fast a few years ago, I learned you have to put it down when it isn't supposed to rain in 48 hours. (which is isn't exactly easy in the Ohio Valley)
How did the black rubber mulch turn out? Any fading? Worth the expense? You just may sway me. lol

Have you thought about a blend? Like something to bring in the light cool tones of the pavers along with the warmer shade of the wall? I was thinking something like this which would achieve both contrast as well as cohesiveness between the two.
