Anyone have any dining experiences @ Landry's Seafood. How was the food/service. Also, where is the closest one to WDW?

Hi--

We ate at Landry's a couple of weeks ago. It was nice, but cannot think of anything totally outstanding about it. It seemed rather expensive, but I guess that is a matter of preference. Cloth napkins and tableclothes. They served a really good salad in a big bowl that was tossed at your table. We all had shrimp. The nearest one to WDW is on 535. Take a right out of DTD and go under the expressway. Take the first left. Landry's is on the corner there. I was somewhat disappointed, but we were very tired and probably not up to appreciating a good meal. We went very early, about 5:00, and people were waiting by the time we left. Total for 2 adults and 1 child was around 55.00. No drinks, we all had water. Have a great trip!

The first time we ate there was in 1999 and it was really great, one of the best seafood dinners I have ever had. But we went there last year and I was very disappointed, I had been so looking forward to dining there again. The food was good, but not as good as before. I don't remember how much we paid for 2 adults (I;m thinking about $60), but the portions were very small for the price. I'd have to say Red Lobster is better than what we had last year and we won't be going there this trip.

Well, Landry's is a seafood restaurant and it is pretty good, but also pretty expensive as well. Whether or not you will like Landry's also depends on what your idea of seafood is. I am from the south and when I think of wanting to eat seafood I want the fried fish and shrimp with the coleslaw, baked beans, gumbo, hushpuppies, and last but definitely not least.... Cheese Grits, if this is what you are looking for then you won't find it here. Landry's is what I refer to as fancy seafood, now me personally, the food was just ok, but then again I can't really stomach eatin my fried shrimp with a salad and not slaw and grits. We have a Landry's here in Pensacola, Fl where I am from but I've only been to it twice, it is not my thing... but that is just my opinion, you may love it, again depends on what your idea of seafood is like. Enjoy anyway wherever you end up.

We ate at Landry's in 2002 and loved it. If I remember correctly, my fried shrimp also came with rice pilaf.

I'd have to agree with MinnieFan though and say it will depend on what your idea of seafood is.

I live at the Jersey shore and the salad and rice were good for me.
Grits and beans with fish??! What are grits again? ;)

Magnumaid, give me your address and I'll send you a grit!:teeth: and it's not just any grits, it has to be cheese grits, and they're not just beans, but they are baked beans, big difference on both parts, Landrys is good I guess if you like that sort of seafood. Have you really never had grits?? And what about baked beans?? Some people call them BBQ beans, or pork and beans, maybe that can bring it to your recollection.

Yes, I've had baked beans (yum) But never has a grit passed these lips!
Cheese grits sound good. I think. lol I'm driving down to Orlando in October. Where exactly do grits start showing up on the menu?

I'm guessing that if you will be driving down, you will be traveling by I-95, so I would say start looking for them on the menus once you hit maybe Viginia, if not then definitely by North Carolina. But if you can't wait till then I was serious when I said I'll send you some by mail! :teeth: Enjoy your trip, and if nothing else you can't find grits, stop by a store on your way down and buy some to cook when you get back home. I know for a fact they have grits at all of the Waffle houses and sometimes they are called Huddle House in Georgia I think. Enjoy!

We stopped in a Waffle House near Atlanta. My DD got the kids plate. The waitress asked her if she would like grits. My DD looked at me like, "What the heck are grits???" I told her, "They are like cornmeal oatmeal." My DD said NO. The waitress just looked at us in disgust as if she were thinking,"Yankees!!!"

I hate oatmeal but love grits. If I am not mistaken Cracker Barrell restaurants have grits on the menu, and they are everywhere on I-95. I like my grits with butter, salt and pepper. Some eat them with cream and sugar like oatmeal but that just does not appeal to me. I don't normally eat "southern" food, and yes I have always lived in Virginia, but grits are great in my book.

If you go to Landry's take a COAT! We went at the end of April, and it was SO cold (absolutely freezing!!!) in the entrance, we ended up leaving! We went to Red Lobster instead. Which was a great choice, because I have always loved that RL! ;)

We were there in April. It was good but not outstanding. We would probably go back. I prefer Bahama Breeze to Landrys.

Well, since this conversation digressed to a grits discussion, I eat mine with a tiny bit of butter and then honey. My mom eats hers with a ton of butter and maple syrup.

Huddle House I believe is a totally different chain from Waffle House, but same premise - except the Huddles all seem to be more 'modern'. Every WH looks like it dropped out of 1974 - even the brand new ones.

And as Jeff Foxworth says......
'You might be a redneck if your prom theme song was 'The Waffle House Song''.

PS - my DS loves their apple pie!
