But in the end, I chose before only because the 12/12/10 cruise would return on the 16th and that's starting to get a bit too close to the holiday's for me.

For our first DCL cruise in May 0f 2007 we did the cruise first. Although leaving the ship was very hard to do, knowing that we had several days left to spend at Disney World seemed to lessen then sting a bit.
This pasted August, we decided to switch things up and do the land portion first. We didn't like this at all. When the cruise was over, so was our vacation! No Disney, no Universal, nothing but 95 north
We tried after the cruise once and will never do it again...
We were exhausted and just felt "let down" after the cruise.. Hard to imagine that WDW was a let down, but to us it was.. We will always do the parks first from now on
Land, then sea. Two reasons, for us: 1) the cruise is the most luxurious and care-free part of the vacation, and 2) it's nice to relax more towards the end of the vacation, although how much you relax is up to you.
The first time we did the land first. At the end of the cruise we had a 10 hour wait in the airport (we live in Seattle and the flight schedule is not that good for us)
Then we did the sea part first on the second cruise and met others in WDW afterwards. This, for us, was much better.
The cruise is very relaxing, but having the excitement of the parks when we got off the ship was wonderful anticipation for us.
Our first Disney Cruise was the 2008 Westbound Panama Canal Cruise from Florida to California on the Disney Magic for 16 days. Yes, any other cruise is just a trip around the bathtub in comparison.
We spent a week before the cruise at WDW, and were exhausted. Having the cruise afterwards was relaxing. However, to immediately head home after the cruise was just too much to bear, so we spent a couple of days at Disneyland after the cruise to "wind down" and re-enter the real world.
We called it our Kingdom to Kingdom Cruise.
We're doing the same thing on the Podcast Cruise - a day or so at WDW befoe the cruise and a couple of days at WDW after the cruise. I think this is the ideal land/sea trip if you can work it out.
We like to arrive one day before our cruise and spend a night in WDW, then cruise. We always feel that we are getting off the ship and heading right for the airport and then sitting around for a while. Next time we will definately ad on a few days at the end for the parks so we don't feel like our vacation is over the minute we step off the ship. That part of the trip is always depressing for us
