Tabloids and all the entertainment news shows. It's a huge industry and a lot of people ride this stuff all the way to the bank.

I'm not surprised at all. I've always liked the band and him in particular (but since I'm old enough to be a mother to any of them not in a crush kind of way). Good for him that he's in a steady relationship and felt the time was right to be open about it.

I'm actually shocked. I just never figured....or maybe I just never thought about it. I guess I just presumed with the whole Boy Band thing....chicks everywhere, different girl in every city, etc. I should know better not to presume.

Snoopymom~I wanted to say for publicity but didn't want to offend anyone more that what I might have....but I did think about this....and this to me would seem like a valid reason for a celebrity person to "announce" something like this. I am just curious where do regular people make these type of announcements? The Nifty Nickle? Is it really necessary (other than to boost your hits on the Internet?)

One of the reasons he and others feel compelled to announce it is because once the rumor mill gets a hold of it, it gets really nutty. The rumors had already started to pick up, so he figures if he just says, hey, this is the deal, I'm in a relationship etc..., alot of the rumors will be put to rest.

I agree about him going to space! That would be something to talk about!!

Thank you for this logical post and I feel the same way. I think he had to come out because a gay publication "outed" him. The cynic inside me wonders if he has a comeback album or a book deal in the works? It's nobody's business who or what he is. I know that a straight person's sexuality is something that we or I, don't give much thought on. I guess that it's a bigger deal for someone who is gay because it must define a part of who they are. I wish that certain people in this country and around the world would learn to respect others rights to privacy and just keep private issues, private. This anouncement of him comming out of the closet will be on the front cover of every celebrity rag magazine in the supermarket check out line. I couldn't handle my private life being examined like that and I would rather have the money some celebrities make and not the fame.

I'll bet that he will be making the mandatory apperances on "Oprah" and the "View" as well, discussing what it was like to be a teen popstar hiding the fact he was gay. I can just see the interviews now and I'll make sure that I'm busy when the're on. Maybe I'll finally organize that pesky sock drawer of mine that's calling my name.

I read the People Magazine article. I didn't know that he was dating Reichen from the Amazing Race. I remember hearing that Reichen and Chip broke up, but I didn't realize that Reichen was now dating Lance.

Oh that's cool. They make a hot couple.

It's discussed in the People interview that he came out becuase of the rumor mill. He stated that his mother found out while she was surfing the internet. I think when it's become public foder and you're parents find out that way, it's better you come clean to at least them.

As for the "announcement aspect," it's along the same lines of the celebrity splits. How many months was there speculaiton that Nick and Jessica were on the rocks? Was it not the headline in every weekly celebrity magazine or tabloid for 6+ months? If, all of a sudden, US Weekly ran a picture of Lance dancing with another man, or sharing a drink with another man, or walking on the beach with another man, it would just be constant speculation and foder. He's provided enough of it already- Perez Hilton has called him (asked to remove by a Mod) for ages. By coming out (no pun intended) with it in an interview, all the speclation will cease and desist and there will no longer be the rhetorical questions posed on internet sites and tabloids across the world.

In all fairness Tim, it is a internet discussion board and that's what we do, post what we feel on the issue that was brought up. I didn't see no hate in their post. It wasn't to long ago that those terrible tabloids would take delight in outing a famous person and destroy their career. I would like think that a lot of Americans like me, just don't care who's gay or not. It's not a big deal in my book and more power to him if he's happy. I don't wish him any ill will and to tell the truth, I never thought of him till this subject was brought up. He should never have to say anything about who or what he is. My motto is: Just live your life and let others do the same, in peace and privacy. There's more important issues facing the world than who's gay or not, IMO.

I would like think that a lot of Americans like me, just don't care who's gay or not. It's not a big deal in my book and more power to him if he's happy. Oh I totally agree with you. It was meant to be tongue-in-cheek and joking around. Yeesh this is the 2nd time what I meant to say today, came across differently! (bad side to emotions on the internet).

The only reason I think this is good that he did this is because if I was 10 years younger than I am now and read this article and was starting to discover that I was gay, I would feel comforted to see a celebrity have the guts to come out and admit to the public he is gay. It would help me to realize that homosexuality is being more accepted.

Hope I didn't offend vegasnative or anyone else. I guess I need to watch how I phrase things from now on.
