Day 4 - Thursday Jun 26th - Universal Studios
Another Mickey wakeup call at 6:30AM. Didnt share it this time. Got dressed and headed down for coffee but before I left the room I woke up LT and told her to get her shower done. Enjoyed a quick smoke with my coffee while watching the ducks and listening to the birds then went up and woke everyone else up. David took his shower and then everyone had breakfast. Everyone was moving just a little slower this morning so we didnt leave the room until 8:30am. Got to Universal Studios just as it was opening, the entry lines were very long. The lines for Jimmy Neutron and Shrek 4D were already 45 minutes when we got to them and there were lengthy lines for the express passes so we headed to the back of the park and Men in Black. It was a walk on! Again, with the wheelchair we had to go to the exit and take an elevator. We got to ride it twice in a row. Everyone agreed it was fun. From there we backtracked a little and went on Back to the Future. That is a rough ride. I was handing out aspirin to everyone about a half an hour later. Next was Jaws and then DH and the kids all went on Earthquake - The Big One. I took a smoke break and just watched people passing by. On our way to New York we caught both the Street Breaks and Blues Brothers shows. Then we went to Twister - Ride it Out. We took a break at the Monster Café and brought a couple of cokes and just enjoyed the air conditioning. We decided to go and ride ET adventure and then hit Terminator 2. I skipped Terminator and walked around Lucy A Tribute while waiting. Finally, we headed for Shrek 4D and the longest wait of the day. The line was still 45 minutes. They show movie scenes and other things while you are waiting in line so it passed pretty quickly. Was fun watching everyone singing and bopping to All Star. . We made it in the show at the very end of the people being let in because Jackie brought her own chair (they had 4 seats left). It was okay but I like Muppets 3d and Its Tough To Be A Bug better. We decided it wasnt worth waiting in another long line for Jimmy Neutron so we left. LT needed to stop by the Hard Rock to buy some gifts for her family so DH and Jackie went ahead to the van while the rest of us headed that way. It was about 4:30 PM by the time we got back to the WDW area. We stopped at a Golden Corral on 192 for dinner and then went back to the CR. Tonight we decided to check out the pool. It was a bit windy so it was actually cold when you got out of the water but it was very nice. We went back to the room and the girls decided to divvy up the pins Id brought with us. After deciding who got what they wanted to make a trade so we headed over to the 4th floor to see if we could find some CMs with lanyards. LT was hooked from the first trade she made. She decided to trade all her princess pins for Minnie Pins and became a girl on a mission. She traded pins with every CM she found who had a lanyard and had 5 new Minnie pins by the time we were done. David wanted to go back to the pool so he headed out while the rest of us got ready for bed. We finally caught the Water Parade from the window of our room at approximately 10PM while David watched it from the pool - he apparently had the better and more complete view. Still it was neat to be able to watch it while sitting in our PJs.
Day 5 - Friday, Jun 27th (E-Night)
I got up just a little later this morning (7AM) and did the morning coffee run. Today the schedule calls for spending most of the day at Blizzard Beach and then E-Night at the Magic Kingdom. I took sandwich orders from everyone and made sandwiches to take with us. Filled the cooler with water bottles and the sandwiches and we were off. We arrived at Blizzard Beach at 10AM when it opened and saw tons of busses with kids arriving at the same time. The park was packed, it seemed like every daycare or kids camp in Orlando was at Blizzard Beach that day. We found a shaded area back by The Warming Hut, dropped off our stuff and hit the Cross County Creek (lazy river). DH had purchased a special tube for Jackie to use and while going around he was told by most of the lifeguards that he could not use it. Finally, one explained he could but he needed to get special permission so the three of us (DH, Jackie and I) headed over to Snowless Joes to get permission. Finally found someone (Scott) who helped get us permission and offered Jackie a vest to use also. Went back to our table and had lunch. David and LT did the Melt Away Bay (wave pool) while Jackie sat and listened to music on her CD player. DH and I went to check out how to get Jackie on the family tube ride Teamboat Springs. We rode the chair lift up to the top and then checked with the lifeguards on how to do it. Heres the deal, they have 2 special water wheelchairs (plastic tubing although one was broken), and you transfer into one of those at the bottom and ride the gondola up to the top. Then you go through the line and when its your turn they send the wheelchair down in tube first (it has bungee cords on it solely for this purpose) and then they load you in a tube and off you go. Jackie loved the ride. From there we all went in the wave pool and then did one more trip around the lazy river. We left BB around 4PM and went back to our room to take showers and get ready for E-night.
We took the monorail over to the Magic Kingdom around 7PM. First order of business - get our wristbands for E-night and then dinner. Headed for City Hall and was stopped by a CM standing outside who told me he could take care of us. Gave him our passes and he put our wristbands on each of us. Headed down Main Street in search of food. Dave and LT went to Caseys and purchased hot dogs for themselves and one for me. Side note - by this time LT has 9 completely new pins on her lanyard
She really did get into the pin trading. I was a little disappointed with the selection - most of the CMs had lanyards filled with Disney store pins. Guess it was bound to happen but it kind of took the fun out of pin trading for David and Jackie who like to find pins related to either the parks or rides. I took David and Jackie over to Plaza Pavilion where Jackie got the chicken strips and David the sub cause they didnt want hot dogs. Then we headed back to Fantasyland and rode Snow White, the Teacups and one of Jackies favorites - Its a Small World. LT remembered Small World from Disneyland and was disappointed there was no clock and no mermaids. Pooh was still closed (Jun 27th although it was scheduled to reopen on Jun 28th). After that we went over to Adventureland and rode Pirates of the Caribbean. From there we headed back to Splash Mountain and got in line. The fireworks just started going off as we rode, signaling the closing of the park and the start of E-night. We asked the CM if we could ride again because of the difficulty in loading and unloading Jackie but he said no -- too many people in line. So we got off and headed for Thunder Mountain. Again we asked about riding twice and were told no -- too many people in line again. Headed over to Tomorrowland and hit Buzz Lightyear first. We did get to ride here twice which was nice. They have a car that is built for a wheelchair so DH got a break on lifting and transferring Jackie. The CM stopped the ride for Jackie to load but for the unloading we told her not to bother -- Jackie backed her chair out like shed been doing it her whole life and the CM managed to close the ramp before it got to the end of the moving walkway. Both was impressed with the skills of the other
Next stop Space Mountain. I wasnt in the mood so I went on TTA while they went on Space Mountain. The ride stopped just as they were reaching the unloading area and all the lights came on. The CM told DH it had something to do with someone taking too long to either load or unload and it defaulted and stopped the ride (not sure if that was really the case). Anyway, DH and the kids were pushed back in to the unloading area. David wanted LT to experience Alien Encounter so DH, David and LT headed for that while Jackie and I walked around the gift shop. LT really liked it but said it was definitely scary which is why Jackie didnt go on it
It was now 10 minutes before E-Night was over and we still hadnt done The Haunted Mansion so we quickly walked over and made it with a few minutes to spare. As we were leaving we saw folks who werent quite as lucky - the ride was closed. Sadly we headed for Main Street and the hotel. We got up to the monorail station and there was barely a line - thank goodness cause we were very tired. We stopped by the metal Mickey behind the tower and took a picture with it before we headed to our room. Its really a cute picture. We were all in bed by 1:45AM. Tomorrow we get to sleep in but not too late, check out time is 11AM.
