I am moving into my new home next month and I would like to replace the carpeting in the 3 bedrooms, hallway and living room with a pergo type laminate flooring. I am looking for a decent quality flooring that will not be to expensive. I will install myself. Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

The laminate we installed from Costco 8years ago in all areas of our home except the bathroom held up very well and had attached padding. They still sell it.

Just remember you have to sweep and mop it all, It was here when we bought but 1700 sqft of sweeping and mopping I hHATE it. I would personally prefer carpet, DH however loves it (though he doesn't clean it)

I personally hate it too, and would love to replace it all with carpet. It shows every foot print and dust horribly and I sweep daily.

However I got mine at Sams and its very good quality and is holding up great!

I have hardwood, not laminate, and yes, you have to sweep and mop a lot. But I prefer that to carpet, whic gets just as dirty but hides it. I line to be able to see my floors are clean.

My family member who is in the flooring business recommended the Armstrong brand laminate flooring when I purchased my house 6 yrs ago. It has held up beautifully! Not sure if it's available at any stores other than flooring retailers, but I'm sure you could just purchase it from a retailer and install it yourself.

Laminate has been the best thing in the world for my allergies and asthma! I know people think it has "more" dust than carpet but really, it's just that you can see (and therefore get rid of) all the gunk that hides in carpet.

We bought Alloc brand flooring. It's held up beautifully with 3 kids and 2 dogs and with having bikes and scooters ridden (not with permission) on it as well. I've had many compliments on it as it looks real. The planks are wide and beveled so it's not a straight flat surface. The edges also have a wax on them so spills won't soak into the floor (a must in this family). We purchased it online and had it delivered and then hubby installed it himself. If you want samples, I think they can send some and I do remember at one time Lowes had it as a special order brand.

I just replaced carpet and hardwood in a few of my main rooms a little over a month ago and I love it. I feel like I don't have to clean it near as much. Other than going over it with a small vacuum after they eat, I haven't mopped or done anything to it and it looks great.
We bought a brand called Inhaus (IIRC) and the color was Haywood Hickory. It's hand scraped and has a dull finish...maybe that's why I can't see see dust or dirt.

I replaced the carpeting in my house with laminate. I'd never switch back. You will need to buy socks. You can't do the living room slide without socks.

We have laminate flooring purchased from Lowes but not sure the brand. We LOVE it! It is a light color and does not show dirt or spots much at all. It does need to be swept and mopped but to me it just feels cleaner than carpet. We do have a large area rug in our living room which gives you the cozy feel that I like with carpet.

Another vote for the Costco flooring! We've had ours one year and it looks great. It goes on sale from time to time.

We used the pergo brand in a light oak color that has all of the wood grain in it and I love it. Everyone I tell it's per go says it looks like wood. It does have to be mopped/swiffered frequently, but it's so easy to do and I love that it is so much cleaner than carpet. All that dust was still in the fibers of the old carpet, you just couldn't see it. We did our family room, office, upstairs hallway and 3 bedrooms. My room still has carpet and I'm dying to replace it but can't do it yet. We got a close out on a discontinued color at HD (had to go to 4 or 5 stores to get enough) and got it at a great price. It's been 2 years now and it 's holding up beautifully.

I have real oak in my living room and dining room and honestly it looks good but the pergo looks just as good and is tougher.

If you want your wood floor to stay clean but don't want to dust mop often, get a Roomba.

I installed Pergo Heritage Hickory in our family room and dining room last year. We have 3 kids and 2 dogs and it looks like new. I love it! Much easier to keep clean and very easy to install.

I agree with pp, I chose a matte finish and floor with variations in color specifically to cut down on being able to see every speck. I want to put it in more rooms next summer after we figure out what to do with our kitchen floor.

We put in Pergo a couple of months ago. It is beautiful, but I don't think it looks like wood. I somehow picked a glossy finish w/o realizing every speck of dirt would show. DH claims he told me... :rolleyes2 It's not hard to clean - except for occasional streaking. I like that I know when it's actually clean or dirty, but as soon as someone walks on it w/ a tiny bit of dirt on their feet, you see every footprint.

We have had some problems, however. We were told this is the best laminate and the hardest, but we have found scratches and a few chips already! We have gone out of our way being careful to prevent this, so it is frustrating. I was going to take out the carpet in another room, but now my DH wants to do carpet again, and it's a high traffic area. I am very unhappy with Pergo. :(
